check out 'Overcome 7 Series v4.1.0' (Android Gingerbread 2.3.6) :

All Files needed are Available here :- http://d-h.st/users/...aM3?fld_id=8341

Download, read & if possible Print 'The Installation Guide - The Overcome Experience.pdf'
download, 'GB-Stock-Safe-v5.zip' (this contains 'gt-p1000_mr.pit' & the recomended modem for AT&T)

that should give you a basic stock 2.3.6 Gingerbread, you can continue with the full installation as per the Installation Guide, from there

Thanks!

Will be giving the good old try!

Hope this gets me back!

Bob

Hurray!

Now to locate a pit file for AT&T SGH-I987...

It "thinks" it is a PT-1000.

BUT it does work, and I need to get Google Play on it.

glad it worked for you :good:

check your 'Mobile Network Settings' .... 'Access Point Names'
see if you have AT&T selected, if not, if its listed, select it,
if its not listed, tap menu, + New APN ...... you should be able to get the settings from AT&T's website, or google for ... AT&T Android APN settings

Using your instructions, I just follow until done making my i987 from 2.2 froyo to become 2.3 gingerbread with dialer icon on the home screen. I can play internet and make it a regular phone when inserting an active SIM.
Now, how to take care the applications? I see the applications when it was in 2.2 froyo were still there, but all of them didn't work anymore, such as google play, skype, office, basically everything except: opening website, gmail, foto and video records and phone calling.
The main problem is that google market didn't work well. All application failed to be downloded through this basic android service. Anybody can help?
