Happy new year to everyone.

I've just bought through Amazon ATT Galaxy Tab 7 (SGH-I987). I was searching the forums looking to upgrade firmware to 2.2.1 or 2.3.3. But all the instructions are related to different models. Instructions to upgrade GT-P1000's firmware works on SGH-I987?

Does anyone had the chance to upgrade your firmware? Or at least backup 2.2?

I will appreciate all your help on this matter,

Thanks in advace,

Francisco

I was trying to update my tab from Froyo to Gingerbread from the directions on this site.
However, on the very second step, nothing happened any further.
Now the screen shows AT&T logo in the beginning and nothing afterwords, and the screen is dark, though buttons are lighted.

Anyone help please.

Thank you Bart.
One question, which download should I pick? Any?

Pressing power and up-volume does not take me to 'recovery mode'.

can you get into "Download Mode" ?

if so you would need "The Full Wipe" installation :-
You should download the VERSION 5 of the Gingerbread-based stock-safe file (001001-GB-stock-safe_v5.zip)
You should download the Overcome Kernel 4.0.0 ODIN/TAR Version (002001-Overcome_Kernel_v4.0.0.tar)
You should download the Overcome 7 Series ROM 4.0.0 Wipe Edition (001002-Overcome_7_Series_v4.0.0_Wipe.zip)

then follow the instructions in "The Installation Guide - The Overcome Experience.pdf"

Anyone help please ...

I followed the steps from 1 (Extract the 001001-GB....zip) file to 6 (one you've seen the green PASS),
My Tab rebooted but is stuck on AT&T logo, and not passing through it.

in part 5. before you clicked on the big Start button, did you make sure you had all three options checked in "Re-Partition", "Auto-Reboot", "F.Reset Time" ?

My tablet has lost it's mind. Get's caught in a boot loop. When I power down and back up, it erases not only all of my shortcuts, but also removes my pin access password.

Samsung wants me to send it to them.

I'd rather find out how to re-flash the firmware myself.

Can anyone give a novice a step-by-step procedure to do this????

I bought a year ago second-hand on Ebay. Been working great up until a couple of weeks ago. Did not load anything new....just started happening!!! UGH! It came to me already rooted. (but I don't know what that means).

I have an AT&T sim card in it and use AT&T data plan.

Thanks for you help!
Robin

Bart,
Thanks a lot for this tip. I was stuck at this same position since yesterday and successfully came out of this.

Tried to reset. No joy! Neither AT&T NOR Samsung seems to want to take it on.

Now I'm stuck with the wrong pit file, and no correct/current PDA files to use with Odin.

Has the firmware files finally gotten "loose" yet?

check out 'Overcome 7 Series v4.1.0' (Android Gingerbread 2.3.6) :

All Files needed are Available here :- http://d-h.st/users/...aM3?fld_id=8341

Download, read & if possible Print 'The Installation Guide - The Overcome Experience.pdf'
download, 'GB-Stock-Safe-v5.zip' (this contains 'gt-p1000_mr.pit' & the recomended modem for AT&T)

that should give you a basic stock 2.3.6 Gingerbread, you can continue with the full installation as per the Installation Guide, from there
