My wife and sister-in-law use P1010 tablets, while I use a P1000... They complain that they don't get the same downloadable apps from Market and Samsung Apps as i do with my tablet. We verified this to be true... From just the first screenful of apps that comes up after clicking on Samsung Apps, I saw the difference.

For example, my P1000 can see & download NFS Shift and Facebook for Android. Even I search for these apps with a P1010, I am not able to find them...

Why is this so? SHouldn't these two tab models be able to view and download the same apps?

Btw, our units are stock Froyo...

Hi vegetablejoe

It seems odd on the surface but there are very good reasons why some apps will not run on various models. When you download an app, it asks you to accept the permissions it requires to run before it will install. These are things like GPs locations, access to other features of your model. The P1010 is wifi only and so if an app requires a feature of the phone to work, then it will not be able to be installed on that model. I can't think of exact examples off the top of my head but the models are different, so not all apps will work on both.
Hope that helps to clarify the issue a little.

Those apps are reportedly available elsewhere and do work on the GT-P1010. I know the Facebook app does work as I have it on mine.

Hi Tempy

Could you please help vegetablejoe out by telling him how to get FB on the P1010 then.
It will help me out in the future too.

Thanks

the current Android Market Facebook App is version 1.6.4, this is capable of using SMS so it needs a phone

a previous version of Facebook App version 1.5.4 did not have the use of SMS & is compatible with the P1010

Thanks everyone for your help and inputs! I'll see to it that my sis-in-law gets to download the older Facebook version properly...

the selective browsing still seems kinda strange. I'll have to look into this more.

Have a guess at who it was that wrote the app description for that ^

lol suppose I should fix the bad links people have put up, and add the newer versions..

FYI, the latest version (1.6.4) does work on the P1010, but it pauses when its trying to look for the phone bits..

It's not strange.. it's perfectly sensible.. if an app is designed to work on a device that has (for example) 3G or a phone dialler, then allowing someone to install it on a device without those features would be pointless and annoying..

one of the classic examples of this happened with the HTC Desire.. people were going mad that they couldnt install skype for video calls.. and then someone pointed out that the device does not have a front facing camera..

see why it makes sense now? =@
