I am a freshly minted Galaxy Tab owner trying unsuccessfully to mate a Freedom Pro bluetooth keyboard with my Galaxy Tab from Verizon. The Tab will find the device, but fails on the paring attempt. Same with my Thinkpad laptop. However, I have no problem using the keyboard with my Droid X. A Verizon tech person who also tried and failed to get the Tab to work with the keyboard and said his company probably has disabled some bluetooth functions which could include bluetooth keyboards. Any ideas on how to get the bloody things to work together?

I have a Freedom Pro BT keyboard and am using it just fine with my Tab. I have the T-Mobile version, but I don't think that should matter. Did you download the BT drivers from the Freedom Pro site? I just got their drivers and followed the instructions shown in their video. Also, double-check that the SPP/HID switch is set for SPP and it should work seamlessly.

I'm in the UK and about to buy a Tab, and would like a Bluetooth keyboard. Rather than buying the standard docking keyboard, I'd prefer one which folds to be within the footprint (when lying on its back) of the Tab - this would allow it to fit into the same suit pocket as the tablet.

Failing that, what's the smallest reliable Bluetooth keyboard which has been used?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can make a recommendation.

Can't help with the Freedom Pro but the Apple bluetooth keyboard works perfectly with my Galaxy tab. It found it and synched immediately, displaying the pairing code I needed to enter on the keyboard. Since then it works fine, with no lag at all. Now I just need to find a good small BT mouse to go with it.

Verizon is the problem. Look at my post here and the reply from a Verizon Mod on their Community Board - http://community.vzw...Tab/td-p/336065

Sign up and add to the post. The more complaints they get the better the chances they will fix it. I have also tried Blue Input from the market. It will not help. Verizon clearly has no clue or just wants to make sure they sell the Samsung Keyboard.

Think I'll be wanting one of them myself as well. Most of what I've seen so far have been stupidly small ones though. There were some rollable ones I saw as well but not sure if they are any good.

Except for the price... have you looked at this one?
http://www.amazon.co...s/dp/B0002OKCXE

Size seems about what you are asking, price seems outrageous but if they dont sell at that price maybe they will start to come down.

These are not made anymore and this is why the price is so high. Look on ebay, may get it cheaper. I got one last year for about £28 in the UK (on ebay).

I have one and used it with my Windows Mobile phone. It has many special function keys that require an application running on the device to use them. It is no longer made and there is no support or an Android application. It should work without the special functions but I think there may be a cheaper alternative out there. Great feel to the keys and compact. You may want to look at this thread - Galay Tab Forum Thread

I happened to already have an Apple wireless keyboard and it also works fine, although there are a couple of keys I still have to enter via the screen because I can't find the combinations for them, @ for example. It's a bit on the big side, but it's great for touch typing. I had a 7-inch EeePC for a while and the cramped keyboard was impossible to work on.

I went a little on the expensive side, seem to be spending some bux these days.

Should be pretty close to the tab size when folded. And the keys look reasonable size for typing and "comes with elegant storage case".... so it must be good. Should receive it next week.

Hi Ross,

That folding kb looks very nice, I've been considering that one too. It would be great if you can let us know how you like it when you've been using it fir a while.

OK, the keyboard is in...

Size is what I hoped for. Folded it is a little smaller than the tab. Unfolded it is about 81% of a normal keyboard. Keys have decent feel -- but a little hard getting used to so far. Cannot get used to the small split space key (one on each side of the fold) but I could never get used to the split windows keyboards either.

I will report back when I've used it for a while. I have 4 trips in the next 4 weeks and I'll be bringing this as my personal device along with my work laptop.

Here are a couple of pix... i left them at 3.2MP so you could blow them up but the download is big (>1MB)
Also, I used a Kindle as a comparison since my tab is almost the same size (slightly thicker).

I posted a link to a thread on the Verizon Community boards a while back. I had posted to complain about the Verizon version of the Tab not working with a Bluetooth mouse or keyboard. A Moderator replied and said they were aware of it and were working on it.

It appears that has changed.

The Moderators post is now gone. It was deleted from the thread. I posted again to ask what happened but I doubt they will reply. It would not surprise me if the entire thread disappears. Go complain while you still can.

Here is a link - Verizon Community

I will not buy from Verizon ever again.

Verizon has had a long history of crippling bluetooth on their devices.

http://www.techdirt....12/082257.shtml
http://www.engadget....uetooth-on-the/
http://onemanshoutin...pled-bluetooth/

Although I would think in these days its less about the dial-up networking and tethering capabilities that they were worried about in the past.

I just can't understand why they would do this. What do they gain? I now see they have a history of doing it but why block keyboards?

I hope that sometime soon a fix is available from xda or another developer group. Since it works on all other brands of the tablet it should not be that hard to put back. Anyone here have the ability to do it?

Hi, I'm looking for a 7" tablet for a while, and the galaxy tab looks great for me.
I'm wondering is any kind of bluetooth keyboard work with it?
cause I saw a lot of bluetooth keyboard have to setup with driver,
and I saw this one -> http://www.amazon.co...ef=pd_rhf_p_t_1
which is look great.
I'm a student, would like to use it for typing notes, but the on screen keyboard should be not that easy.
Do anyone know about that?
Would like to hear all of ya =)

That keypad doesn't look much bigger than the on-screen keyboard - try out some of the Android Market apps for alternative screen keyboards - like Thumb Keyboard which give better functionality than standard options that come with GTab.
I'd try that before buying an additional keyboard. Remember that you would almost certainly want some kind of stand to support the GTab while you are typing on an external keyboard ... soon you need a suitcase as well!
