Tried to read a a memory stick by attatching it to the charging lead via a double female usb.
Is this do-able?
Thought I might want transfer some music from stick to tablet or at least listen to some. Just looking at the tablets limitations.
Seems there is no common software like Windows Explorer on tablets.😠
Not had any luck downloading images from dslr, emailed Samsung and somebody who reckons he has done it and got it on his website.

My Tab 2 came with an app called "My Files". It functions similar to Windows Explorer. If it is not on your Tab or you wish a similar app that has more features look at ES File Explorer (https://play.google....droid.pop&hl=en).
I have successfully read a USB memory stick on my Tab 2 with an OTG cable.
I have been able to read the SD card from the Canon DSLR on my Tab 2 using an OTG Cable and an adapter. I have not tried connecting the camera directly.

Thanks Steve.
Thats good info.
An OTG cable doesn't fit the Tab S as the micro usb internals are different to my set up. It is the same size and shape but there is more insulation on the OTG lead, so will not fit in.
I assume the double female USB 2 will give the required connection to the internal terminals.
The wife has the Tab 1 with large flat plug about 20mm wide.
The Tab S body is less than 10 mm thick and is much lighter than the wife's, but that's progress. The Amoled screen makes images very sharp and the camera it comes with gives excellent images for such a small lens and limited focal length.
I transfer and print the info off and see about this other software. A bit penny pinching not to include it when they include similar on a previous model.
Thanks again.
David

Steve,
Downloaded ES File Explorer, and it did nothing that I could not do before, it did not see my USB. All it did was turn the folders from yellow to blue. No instrucions that help or even mention downloading or even seeing a usb.
Beets me.

I don't see why it don't work. I have no problems with using an OTG cable on my Tab S. I have transferred files back & forth on both my Tab S & my GF Tab 4 using an OTG cable, just make sure that the USB stick is no formatted as NTFS. The link that cpfan posted should work for you.

Roger,
Thanks for your interest and help.
The OTG cable micro usb would not fit as described above,
unless there are different types of OTG cables to fit different nachines.
I bought mine from Maplins, though the staf are not very knowledgeable having just left school and only sales people.
I wil have a look on their website to see if there are diferent types of OTG lead.
I was not about to force it. When you put the two cable ends together they are different.
Why would not a double female USB 2 work?
I used the link to download the software, but all it did was turn the yellow folders blue , but there was no indication that there was a memory stick connected. I have used both memory sticks in my car stereo, in fact one of them wad all music, the other being images, slideshows using Windows Movie Maker with music behind the images. The car system picked this music up off the back of the slides. I have transferred slideshows with music via email to my tablet and it plays them fine plus my own videos.
But to get the connection through leads is just not working.
Using the charging lead I have even been able to download images from tablet to PC, it did take copies of android files/folders with it, but I still got the images across.
More research required, though I did try emailing Samsung, but got no were.

Steve,
Re lead. Yes the one I bought first looked like that, but a Maplins, not dedicated one for my model obviously, and I thought they had sorted out the "UNIVERSAL" plugs, how wrong I was. And they charged me £11 that, so took it back as it didn't fit.
I did ask the muppets in Maplins for one for a Tab S as well.
I assume each device, by make or model has a different case fitting, eventually they will standardise that one as well, unless its an apple, and they will be different just to be awkward. It is a bit like Sony stuff years ago used to be with their mini plugs on mini tape decks.
Will be away for a few days, so will order that dedicated one when I return.
Thanks Steve, good man!!!!

Roger,
Just seen cpfan's reply after replying to yours.
I was obviously not getting the right connection, so the Tab S was not seeing the USB stick, nor my camera.
Thanks for that I will report back when next week.

Cpfan,
Eventually able to purchase dedicated OTG cable from Amazon as the wife wanted a leather case like mine forher new TabS2.
Amazon would not allow a £3.99 order.
Any way the lead worked correctly and is quite substantial, compared to some I saw. Nikon D3100 andMemory sticks work well, without extra sofware, using My files.
The TabS2 isnot as good as the TabS, no flash for camera, other photographic software not as good. It has MS Office, but I have found Hancom pretty good on mine.
Recommend the leather cases from Boriyuan via Amazon.
Thanks for the link cpfan last year.
