I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tablet and it says my firmware version is 2.2 . It's a T-Mobile SGH-849 model. I want to upgrade to the latest OS. I tried looking everywhere but cannot find any step by step instructions on how to do it. I tried searching threads within this forum too but could not find anything. I have been coming across something called KIES. Is this a software that I download for my Windows PC and connect the tablet to my PC to upgrade the OS ? How easy is it to upgrade the OS ? Any help will be appreciated.

Kies is available from the Samsung site and allows you to connect the Tab to your PC.

From there, you can check on-line for an update, download, and install it....

If available over the air (OTA) it is straight forward. Just make sure your tablet battery is at least 75% full. Just be patient, it takes a while and the tablet will reboot at least once.

Not all devices are get upgrades from Samsung Kies. My HC 7plus has never been offered any upgrades :(

Good job I like it, although would prefer it to be on JB

HI
Mine wouldn't update via KIES and I was told by Samsung UK that it would have to go to their Service facility for an upgrade to 2.3. I sent both mine and my wife's and they were duly upgraded and returned. I understand that no further upgrades will be issued for the original tabs, mine is a GT p1000.

Thanks for the reply. KIES wouldn't update my tab either. It tells me this device is not supported. I'm in the US though and don't know what kind of support Samsung offers here. Will have to contact them.
