Serial number - stuck! My tablet failed on upgrade and I've thrown away the box

I know this is really dumb but I can't recover my tablet without the serial number.

Re OS: It's basically half pregnant. The Ice cream sandwich upgrade failed.

My PC will occasionally recognise it on Kies but the recovery option needs a serial number.

I'm trying to work out if I'm in "stolen" tablet territory ie I'm not supposed to be able to recover it without a serial number.

The web suggests two routes to get the serial number

a) look in settings - but I can't turn it on because it's stuck
b) look on the back - it's written very small.... it isn't. There's no serial number written on the back.

Any suggestions other than throwing it away and buying another one....

I have a GT-P1000, the IMEI number & serial number is on the back of that (very small), under a barcode, near the bottom

if you do not have that on your GT-P7500

as you have used Kies, check on your PC, in regedit, search for GT-P7500, you should find a page with all the details of your Tab on there, the serial number will be an 11 digit alpha/numeric one

That's almost it!

I have a wpd device handler directory (several in fact) with a sub directory called "known interfaces". The top dir has (default), icon and label files. They're all full of numbers.

Could I ask you to do a search for your serial number and then tell me where it appears in the file?

sorry, wrong info, it wasn't in regedit the Serial Number is stored (it's just the IMEI number in there),
it's on my Samsung Account, where I registered my Tab, when I first bought it.

hope you registered yours, if so, just log on to Samsung.com.au & your GT-P7500 should show up with the serial number beneath in brackets

I think I have an idea !
Use a smartphone with a good camera resolution to take a photo of tablet back, or a professionel camera then zoom the photo. a do same even for needles references.
