Why does the tutorial for the keyboard show info for changing, or splitting, the keyboard style with a two-finger or multi-touch gesture? Is this a "future" feature?

My keyboard does not have the same keys as the one shown in the user manual. In particular I do not have the little microphone icon nor the Text icon which may enable handwriting input.

Am I missing something here -can I change the keyboard?

If you are still using the standard keyboard look for a keyboard symbol on the keyboard and tap that. That will disable handwriting recognition

Go to SETTINGS and choose DEVELOPER OPTIONS. Turn them off at the top of the page.

Junebug is correct... activating developer options gave me the same lines and figures across the top as pharogguy publised. Un-ticking removes the figures and lines

Hi,
You pinch the keyboard with 2 fingers, and then you'll get an option of which keyboard to use. The small "floating" one can be moved to where it's not in the way of where you need to type. If you want to go back to the big one, use two fingers and spread it out.

Yes, both way's and i have "pinched" web page to reduce the resolution.I could not get it to hold (web page) in place so i could see what i was doing. The only thing i could do was go buy a "Keybroad". Now this thing is so sintive that, if ibump the glass it change's i've tryed to set it in settings but it will not hold i'm up to date (4.1.1) i'm trying, there is some settings that i can not change, is there4 a way to get "FULL" control of this tablet?

We are going to need more info on your device to be able to help you out further. Look below your post, and fill it in please? :pardon:

We also need to know what app you are using. While that may not be important, it would be a good idea to see if your keyboard pops up on other apps that you might have on your device, to make sure that isn't the problem.

Is there a 'knack' to moving the floating keypad around the screen?
I seem to end up typing in characters and it not moving freely, I have to have several goes!

I assume you refer to the std on screen keyboard. Have you considered trying one of the replacement keyboards that are available in the Playstore?

There are several free ones. After some trail and error I settled on SwiftKey for tablet. I find it handy as it manages both Afrikaans and UK English very well

You could try clearing all the settings and cache in present std keyboard (settings>Samsung Keyboard>clear data and cache BUT that would kill any saved words in the memory
