Hi All,
My first post on here. Just bought a Galaxy Tab 10.1 last week. I'm an iphone man but wanted to try something different instead of the restrained ipad2. Never used the Android system before so this is all new to me. For starters, I really like the idea that I can use this unit as a standalone GPS when driving and I have no wifi. I did a quick search on here for GPS and there were no hits. I googled online and see alot of different apps that are recommended. I tried the built-in Google maps app but I don't think it works correctly (if at all) when out of wifi range as its very slow and doesn't seem to work properly. So my question is what is arguably the best working app out there to use on the tablet when NOT in wifi range. I don't care if it costs a little bit as long as it works (traffic, lane help, etc are a plus for features). Thanks for any help!

I use CoPilot Live and swear by it ......... CoPilot does have some features that use GSM/WiFi data, but these are not necessary for CoPilot to work as an excellent "self contained" Navigation App......and it includes all map data in the program for independent use....

Type CoPilot in the search box, and have a look through the many posts, both I and others, have written endorsing this App...

PS: As always, check compatibility in the Android Market for the Tab 10.1 ......I use it on the 7inch GT-P1000

Thanks Wizz for the info. I'll check out this app tonite. I believe I did read the reviews on this app in the android market and didn't find them favorable (lots of negs). I'll look again tonite.

I agree. Co-Pilot Live works excellently, and it is relatively cheap. I find the GPS on the device to be excellent - I can see 7-9 satellites from inside my house (has windows). A free program to check on the the GPS is 'GPS Test'. It gives UTC time, maps satellites in the sky with signal strength and gives all the co-ordinates, including speed and altitude.

OK guys, bought the Premium USA version of Co-Pilot Live and it seems pretty cool. Haven't tried it on the road yet but downloaded the Northeast USA maps. I messed around with a few addresses keyed into it so far and didn't see any sort of lane assistance help (to get in correct lane when getting off an exit etc). Is this an extra optional package or just a feature that needs to be turned on from within the premium app? Or maybe it will only show up on screen as required? Thanks!

Navfree: Free GPS Navigation

Hi, I see by your last post, you are sorted. However ive been testing NavFree World for a couple of months on a android phone (HTC Desire) & my 10.1 tab. All maps are free etc and it works very well without any internet connection.

Lane assistance will pop up automatically on major road systems, and will remain on the screen for a predetermined time and then dissapear as you near your exit.....

Go to Settings / Guidance / ClearTurn Display and things like distances and preferences are available to be tweaked..... :good:

Car Dock Home V3 is also an excellent car frontend when using Navigation etc. in the car. It's highly configurable to include all the Apps associated with travel, and give you simple large buttons for ease of use.

This is how I have configured mine to look.......old photo, now use CoPilot Live V9....but you get the idea

I have a Galaxy S smartphone and a Galaxy Tab 10.1. I am wondering if anyone has tried to use the GPS in either one of these in an aviation application for an ultralight or small GA plane.
