I bought a brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in November 2011. I use it every morning normally with no problems, however last weekend I charged the unit to 100% then after the charge I removed the charger connector then it kept on saying battery was still being charged, I turned the unit on and found a warning saying battery is fully charged and please disconnect unit from charger. OK I can live with a false notification but then when I went to turn it off it kept turning back on, no matter what I did it would keep turning on. I studied up on the internet and found many people who could not turn theirs on but very few that theirs wouldn't turn off. So I finally figured out the method of holding the power button with the power up button to turn the unit off. It seems like this is some sort of emergency shut off in case the owner goes through a continual bootup like mine. So once the battery charge went down, the unit decided to turn off just like it is supposed to, I went back to conventional on and off functionality. So then after 5 days of use the battery is down to 15% and I recharged it, now it all starts over again- a false warning to disconnect the charger when its already disconnected, inability to shut the unit down conventionally, the only way to shut down is to hold the buttons and to turn back on from this state you have to hold the power button down for 12 seconds. I tried reformatting through settings only because I can't get the unit to shut down conventionally any more to do a hard reset.
So I called samsung finally after a week of struggling and trying to troubleshoot and they want me to mail it to them and are going to fix under warranty. They said that if reformatting didn't work then it needs professional repair. I am planning on shipping it to them tomorrow morning, so I get one last day of fun. When the unit works, it works great but turning on and off is not functioning as intended. I wanted to share this so maybe others can be helped if they experience similar results. I am convinced something hardware or battery related within the unit is broken or not functioning as intended. So off it goes to Samsung. I will post results after all is said and done in approximately 3 weeks from Feb 12th (today).

Powering Problems 10.1 Galaxy Tab

You could try going into restore mode, and resetting it that way. Honestly, it sounds like a software thing to me. (To get into restore mode, hold power + Vol Down until it gets in, since it keeps rebooting. If it gets to the android screens, it didn't work)

ok after 3 weeks of testing and trying all kinds of things it turned out that my motherboard was bad. Samsung changed it out for me under warranty and it has been working perfect since they did that.
Thanks for the response.
If your galaxy acts funny- turns itself on, funny charging icons, tablet thinks its still being charged even when its not, unable to shut down conventionally, your motherboard may be bad. It comes down to certain ic circuits and the charging system components being bad. It was not heat sensitive and no amount of resets or software changes would do anything. It was an intermittent problem that would come for a few days and go for a few days and come back again with no rhyme or reason. Drove me nuts. Samsung did not even fix it the first time I sent it in, it took two tries. I had to be patient and persistent with explaining to them the intermittance of this particular problem.
