New Update Available! But what is it?
Posted 06 February 2012 - 07:36 PM (#1)
I have my tab set to auto update firmware, but I occasionally check it manually. Well, I just checked and it said new firmware is available, including a new market update. It said to delete any homescreen shortcuts to the current market before installing. It's installing right now. Could it be ICS? Or that update Samsung promised that would be ICS like? I can't wait for the install to finish.
In the meantime if any of you have Honeycomb 3.2 or lower, check for updates. I have v. 3.2 already so it has to be the next version, whatever it is.
Please stop multiple posting ! It causes confusion, and a lot of extra work for the Moderators - wizz

Hi. I also have my tablet in automatic update. And I don't know why I searched manually for updates this morning.
I was on 3.1, and it upgraded to 3.2 with the update this morning. (took half an hour. Feel long between 20% and 60%)
Didn't played a lot. The only big difference I've seen is the look of the back button. Instead of a straight arrow, it is now curved like a U-turn
The "take picture" button is still there. I was hopping it would disapear

Yeah, my update turned out to be a firmware update. Nothing has changed except the Market is now radically different. No difference in look or performance of v.3.2 other than that.

I, too got the OTA firmware update yesterday. I find it confusing, though, because my market had already updated itself a week or so ago, and now as a result of this update I have two Market apps in my app drawer. That's annoying.
Also, at first my YouTube widget wouldn't load, giving me a "not available" message, and my YouTube home page gave the same error. The other screens for favorites and playlists, search all worked, just its "home" wouldn't. However, after about an hour I noticed my widget was again working, and opening YouTube displayed my YT home page just fine. Odd, to day the least.
Otherwise, I'm not seeing any difference other than the firmware number.

For the market : yes it has changed.
And there was a warning just before the update saying to remove link from desktop after update, and create it again.
Market seems slower.
Back key in maket takes more than a second.
For me no changes except the market and the shape of the "back" key.

During this update my Galaxy Tab 10.1 looks stuck on 27% (Black screen, with Samsung GALAXY Tab 10.1 + Bar with 27% below that. Already for 30 minutes like that (Model GT-P7510) anybody else has that? Wait or reset?? Any suggestion?

Thank you Merlin! Did that (that=waiting) for about 1 hour, pressed power button for several seconds, switched unit off. Restarted and the installation started again, but got stuck at 26% this time. Waited for almost 3 hours. Just restarted it again by switching it off and on again and now is seems to slowly run through the update (indeed slow now at 44%). What I did different is that I pulled it our of the Samsung Keyboard stand (PN ECR-K14AWEGXAR) and connected direct to the power. Maybe that had something to do with it. 46%....48%....50%. I am confident it will work out ok now. Thanks for the support.

I just updated to Android HC 3.2. Yea, there's nothing much.
The 'back' button's changed, newer and better dare I say Android market (we can now comment and rate!!), the native eBook app has a different (nicer but slower) page transition, and a couple of new apps in my app drawer (Readers Hub and Allshare). Probably there are more that I haven't noticed yet.
However, I don't know why but I feel the overall system performance is a little slower. Apps take longer to load, there's a little more lag on the home screens. Is it the same for you?

Hi, how are you getting this update? I've been trying to get it through Kies but unfortunately it seems to be the worst piece of software I've ever installed on my pc. It refuses to recognise the tab. When I troubleshoot it uninstalls the tab's drivers from the pc and then attempts to install new ones but fails. When I reconnect the tab it automatically installs drivers on the pc again and so it continues until I just give up.
Edit: I just realised I can do it via the settings on the tab itself so I can give Kies the boot from my pc. Good riddance.

@Dan1948 : DLNA is a protocol to share multimedia stuff between electonic devices..
I have a Synology NAS, and with that I can stream my videos on my tablet.
You can have some TV that are able to read video from your tablet through Dlna protocol. (like samsung TV)
@himmatsingh, @Langaschek : I agree with you.
For me it is slower too.
Especially back and home buttons stucks for 1-2 seconds.
Another drawback : If I switch off my tab with WiFi on, on the next switch on, wifi doesn't connect ! It searches for 5mn my Wifi router ! I have to switch off and on the wifi to find it in a second.
This is really a pain. If I could switch back to Honeycomb 3.1...
The only new interesting point is Allshare program. Too little compared to the above disadvantages.

I may have found a correction for the Wifi reconnect issue in Android 3.2.
Instead of enabling "switch off wifi when screen is off" I selected "switch off wifi except if power plugged in".
and now, even if I'm not plugged, wifi reconnects in a second after switch off with Wifi on.

Hello Bahaa Chouman
As a newbie in here your first post has to be approved by a Moderator before it appears in the forum.
I am sorry that no one was around to meet you and that you had to triplicate your post, putting it into 2 others sections in the forum.
You will now find you have one post in the correct 10.1 subsection of this forum.
As a rule we would normally be upset by this triplicate posting but in this case I can understand that you did it because you thought the forum had a problem. I HOPE !

Bahaa,
You should not lose any data with an update to 3.2. That being said, before doing any type of system upgrade, it's a good idea to make a backup of the data on the device. Should something happen, any apps you have purchased will be available to re-download on the Android market. If you are worried about losing your data, always make a backup first.
