OK my Tab is charged sufficiently.
click on settings tab in lower right hand corner, or shortcut on home screen if you made one.
on the left hand side you see a list of items, locate the last item listed, "ABOUT DEVICE"
click on that "ABOUT DEVICE" of course!
in the list to the right the first or second item listed is "SOFTWARE UPDATE", click on that.
(I found that even though I had AUTO UPDATE checked off it did not auto update nor would it check for and update unless first I unchecked that box).
So the short is, "UN-CHECK AUTO UPDATE" at least for now, you can re-check it later if you wish.
next click on the top item "UPDATE"
a message will occur asking you to select your country "UNITED STATES" for example.
the download will start
the update will be applied,
the total process of downloading the update and then applying it in the TAB took about 20 minutes, so just let it do its business until it is finished.

hope this helps :)
HM

QUOTE from above - "I found that even though I had AUTO UPDATE checked off it did not auto update nor would it check for and update unless first I unchecked that box".

A useful piece of information, although this has not been my experience.
My auto update is checked and to my surprise (I hadn't realised is was set up to do this function) mine did an update itself last week, including the re boot. I thought it was quite neat but if you do not want this to happen without your consent then I would uncheck the option in about Device.

I expect the Samsung Note to be the first device to be updated before the Tab 7 Plus

definitely.. unfortunately, Samsung does take their time in rolling out updates. I'm still using my Galaxy S i9000 and even that isn't assured of having an ICS update. nonetheless, still looking forward to getting my Tab 7 plus rock ICS. As snappy as it already is, I'm hoping the ICS update could make my toy run more smoothly. I think it's sad that Honeycomb isn't getting as much support as it actually should have.

let's see... they'll probably release 4.0.5 already, but by the time they do, there would already be 4.2 or something.. hahaha. sure hope samsung releases it by Q2 this year.. i'm not looking to port any custom ROMs on my tab.. too afraid of the possibility that it could void the warranty. can't wait for the stable release of the custom ICS for my galaxy S though. haha.
