When are we going to get the ICS upgrade that Samsung said that we were going to get. It seems high time that we should be getting it. Google released the code back in November, so whats taking so long. Does anybody have any idea or information regarding this issue.

Only Samsung know that.......and they're not telling.

It's futile to speculate, but rest assured, we are among the first to confirm any updates.

I just got off a very lengthy chat with Samsung support. Here's what I got - directly copied from a chat with Samsung support: "there is no time frame regarding ICS update release date." A manager later told me that there is a single update for ALL supported Galaxy Tabs - but told me it could take up to a month for Samsung to get through them all. I'm pretty disgusted with Samsung - they make some great products but then seem to fumble when it comes to showing any commitment to customers.

Sammy say August. Well we are half way through and still no update. I love my tab but HATE Samsung. Not one single official post from them on any of the gazillion forums/ blogs complaining about the continual waiting game for ICS. All they care about is new sales, forget all those that have already purchased from them.

As I type, my tab is downloading an update package. When I searched and was notified that the update package existed, it also indicated that Media Hub would cease to work after today if the download were not accepted. I am hoping that it is ICS as it is a fairly large file, almost 314MB.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ICS has definitely arrived for the Tab 8.9. It took a while to download, nearly half an hour and another 10-15 minutes to install. I am now running version 4.0.4.

There will be some adjusting of things. It reset all my screens although it didn't remove the apps. I will have to add the icons to the screens again.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ICS for the Tab 8.9 is now available from Samsung. It can be downloaded off the air by selecting software update from the About Device section in Setup.

The download is fairly large about 314MB and took nearly a half hour to download. Installing will take another 10-15 minutes and after it restarts you will be presented with ICS.

During the installation process there were a couple of times where the upgrade instituted a soft boot. It was marked by a neat android icon, one that I had never seen before.

Yep, ICS has arrived for the wi-fi Galaxy Tab 8.9, only 10 months after it was promised... Yippee!

I did the 313.8 MB download over the air, took about 25 minutes (didn't use my computer during download to conserve bandwidth), installation took only 10-15 minutes.

It did reset all the screens, and some apps had to be re-installed (the Samsung e-reader), it also wanted me to log into my Samsung account and update it. Flash needed to be updated, and it does work- sporadically. (On some sites it works, on some it doesn't. The Play Store Flash app page says that Flash support will be discontinued in any Android version above 4.0.xx. Hope the developers start moving to HTML5 a little quicker!)

I'm still fooling around with the new OS, re-configuring apps, screens, syncs, settings. Fortunately, email and my photo apps (Instagram, and PicsArt) all work fine, which is most important to me. It does seem like the new OS is sucking battery juice even faster than before-- I thought this update was supposed to make batt consumption MORE efficient. And disappointed that the tablet camera still takes 5-6 seconds to actually snap a photo-- I thought ICS was supposed to fix that lag. Kinda useless for photos of pets and other moving creatures...

All in all, pretty cool, and I'm glad the tab didn't crash and burn. I really dislike the KIES software, which gave me nothing but headaches when I tried it when I first got this tab, so I was pleased that the OTA update worked fine. Now my 8.9 behaves very much like my wife's 7" Tab2.

UPDATE 8/31: I've noticed that my 8.9 tab now seems to burn battery power faster than before. Somehow, I thought the update to ICS was supposed to reduce battery consumption rate. I have no hard data on this, just subjective. It's not too bad when idle, but when using apps like email, Instagram and PicsArt, it can use as much as 30% of its power in an hour.

Another thing to be aware of if you are a SWYPE user. The version of SWYPE that came with the tablet was removed. Apparently the only version available for download and installation is the beta version. I was able to reinstall SWYPE as I dislike the Android Keyboard and the Android Keyboard apparently doesn't include the % symbol, which I use to log onto my work email.

Same here, it is the first time I have ever bought a Samsung device, my Galaxy Tab 7.7. My chat with a Samsung rep in Australia also was not reassuring, as he said he cannot confirm that the update will be available. Today is the last day of August, still no update while all other brands got the update as soon as it became available. Frankly speaking, I am also disgusted, that will probably be my first and last Samsung device.

Inclined to agree. I'm in the UK and no sign so far although I know that USA customers were updated to ICS earlier this week.

I quote a message from Samsung regarding ICS update which I recvd a few days ago:

"Thank you for contacting Samsung and I have pleasure in providing the following assistance.

Regarding your query please be advised that there currently is no official release date for this product within the UK. As always you can register online at our Samsung UK website to receive up to date news on all our upcoming products and services.

You can stay up to date on the latest Samsung news on our official Samsung UK Facebook page (facebook.com/SamsungUK) or our Twitter feed (Twitter.com/SamsungUK)."

Is that a YES or a NO?

2 weeks ago, Samsung told me that the UK ICS update would be along imminently and if it hadn't happened within 2 weeks, I should get back in touch. Nothing happened, so I did, and received the following reply, which seems a bit open-ended in terms of whether or not it will ever happen, and the best-case seems to be some time in November:-

"Thank you for contacting Samsung.

Please note there may be some time before the update is available for your model device. Some devices may receive the update between now and the end of November, however, we cannot provide a specific time when the upgrade will be available to you. We recommend checking every few days for the update either OTA or via Kies.

If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and we will be more than happy to help.

Kind regards"

Did I miss the window for updating my tablet? I'm in the U.S. and did not know about this. I just tried to update and it said my tablet is up to date, even though I haven't updated since I got it last December. Did they really only make it available for a short period of time?

Those of us who have successfully updated are using the wifi version of the tablet. It may be that they are not releasing the update to the AT&T tablets yet.

I have a 8.9 LTE on Bell and I'm still running Honeycomb. Ironically, my original 7" PT-1000 (which is now wifi only) is running ICS thanks to CM9.

And then this morning Bell rolls out ICS. Wasn't sure if they were going to go to Jelly Bean. But I have an upgrade now! And on the same day iPad Mini is released. Hmmm...

ICS has arrived at last in the UK !!! Downloaded and installed this morning. Took about half an hour. Pleased with the speed and clarity of the screen shows a notable improvement. I've got a bit of 'houskeeping' to do, but no data was lost on this OTA upgrade. Still no joy with Kies though.

don't forget to edit your Signature & update your Android Version ;)
