I ended up trading my 7+ for an 8.9. I really like it. Easier to type on with two hands, and I like reading magazines on it better. Also, the battery is noticeably better. It might be a little big for someone who specifically wants that 7-inch form factor, but this is definitely better for me.

I am SOOOO jealous! I really love the 8.9 and feel it is their best tab except for the lack of expansion slot which sucks plus the extra $$$$. I simply couldn't swing the extra $$$ for the 8.9 tab. I wonder why Samsung hasn't done more to promote that model and it's a shame they haven't introduced an updated model with the expansion or HDMI ports. It would really sell like nuts! ;)

Nice to see new faces here. Welcome!

Well, I am currently without a tablet at all :nea: having returned my GT7+ to BB yesterday due to overheating issues. They are currently out of stock of ALL Galaxy Tabs in my local store so I couldn't even leave with a replacement.

I am starting to second guess my return of the 8.9 though. Magazines were awesome on it but I think the 7.0 is quicker and video/audio on the 7 was MUCH better (if that's important to you). I just wish the 7 had the same higher resolution as the 8.9.

I think I'm going to sit back and wait to see what happens. I have a refurbished Nook Color coming by mail and I'll see if I can get by with that until this whole tablet thing shakes out a bit, particularly seeing what has come out of CES this week with some very highly specified tablets at the $250 price point(the Asus in particular.

I'm going to be hanging around here and other forums though to keep an eye on what's going on.

Don't say that! I am torn between my GT7+ (in transit from Amazon) and the 8.9..... I am lost without my toy so I would hate to send it back; but on the other hand, oh what the heck.............can't make up my mind. Because I got the NT money back in Amazon store dollars I had to order from them and the 32gb model of the 8.9 was a crazy $499! No 16gb in stock, none at the BB price of $399. Darn. So I ordered my GT7+! A gal can't make up her mind... :yahoo:

Yeah, I know, but..... but....

I find the article view kinda loses the 'feel' of the text in relation to the pictures, particularly if there are multiple highlight boxes on a spread.

It depends on the type of reading one does. most likely. For me, scrolling through the article first, then reading the article view works
for my subscriptions so far. Would I rather have a larger screen? Sure, if it was possible considering all my criteria.

It truly is a juggling act -- wants vs available features. My eyesight is stronger than my thumbs so I chose the lower weight. Grab 'n' Go
is easier for me when I can tuck it into my purse or even a pocket. My wallet doesn' t want a data plan and I always have my cellphone with me
so wifi only works for me, and on and on went my deliberations.

I have heard a couple people mention lagginess and video issues with the 8.9, but I haven't seen any of it. This thing has been a superb multimedia device for me. In my mind it really blows the 7+ out of the water
Particularly when it comes to battery life.

Congrats on the 8.9! I really craved that baby but simply could not swing it with Amazon's higher pricing. Bummer.... I got gift card refund at B&N for my NT and had to sell those off online and get payment in the form of an Amazon gift card.

I finally received my 7plus yesterday evening and I charged it up and had a little chance to play with it. I love the beautiful display and there are numerous little niches of apps and features I have yet to figure out and learn to use. I will say that the battery life is not the best but I will wait to see if an update improves that. Hopefully enough mention is made in the press to pursuade Samsung that a patch is necessary to tweak this.

The included cable is soooo short! What's up with that?! I ordered a back up and found it in my mail today so tomorrow it goes to the office with me.

I have not inserted a micro sd card yet but I did attempt to download all my B&N books to the device itself. The covers and books appear within the Nook app but I can't open them. Tonight I will format my 32gb card and install it with the hope that this fixes the situation? Has anyone run into this and if so, how did you fix the problem? Thanks in advance for any tips.

Have a terrific evening!!!!

Give it a couple charges before you get too stressed about the battery. The week I had mine it took about three charge cycles before I felt it was getting the best life.

Had mine 7 days, so 7 charges and getting about 9 hours out of my battery.

Why not step in to the 7 plus section of the forum and have a look around. We have been ironing out some of the user niggles in there.

I am going to copy and paste my update report on the 7+ tab and let me say I am really enjoying it. I posted this on the XDA devs Galaxy 7.0 Plus forum:

I'm using Kies Air to wirelessly transfer and synch my contacts, calendar, etc....... Experimented and have transferred photos and some other files. Also worked using the USB cable and my Windows 7 recognized and installed drivers. It recognized the SD card as my E drive.

Regarding the heating up issue, so far I have not experienced this. The battery use is under control when I turn off all wireless when I leave my home.

Getting used to the Touchwiz interface but I also installed Go Launcher EX and use that sometimes.

Video playback is awesome on this little tab; last night I was watching movie trailers and was surprised with the sound as well. The Nook's sound was always a bit weak.

I installed an anti-glare screen film and it is awesome for reading. Doesn't detract from the beautiful display and the fonts are crisp.

Regarding opening my Nook books I realized that it worked as soon as I installed my SD card and I downloaded my books so I wouldn't have to deal with having a wireless connection to read my books.

Playing around with the wallpapers and customizing the Samsung screens and installed a super cool "steam punk skull" live wallpaper and it is amazing! Found it free via the Amazon app store....it is fantastic! I also found other beautiful live wallpapers via the Amazon app store including snow scenes.

The tab connected flawlessly to my Samsung Galaxy 4G T-Mobile phone's access point and used that to stream Pandora and download some Kindle books. It was done in my office which doesn't have the best T-Mobile network access and it was surprisingly fast and smooth. No stuttering of the music and emails and Facebook worked great.

I ordered the 6' long usb cable for the tab via Amazon and it has shipped; hopefully it is well matched and charges up the tab just as well as the stock 3' shortie cable. I noted other comments regarding the slow charging of the tab and found that turning off the wifi or simply shutting it down speeds up the charging dramatically.

So that is my report so far and let me say I am enjoying the 7+ tab immensely.

I agree with all of what you said. Additionally I used the maps program to double check on someplace I was going before iI left my house. I left the program up and running when I left the house. Low and behold it guided me all the way there, (this is a wifi only deviice) I had not realized it worked that way. TOO COOL :-). I love the feature that allows you to go back and forth between programs

I'm baaa...aaack...

Hey guys, not much going on here but in case any of you are still receiving subscription emails from this thread... I just ordered a Galaxy Tab 8.9 (again LOL)

I returned my original 8.9 back in January but have been kinda regretting it ever since. The recent deal at Best Buy for a refurb 8.9 tablet, keyboard dock, regular dock, case, headphones and SD card reader for $299 was just too good to pass up. So, it gets here Monday and I can't wait.

How are you all doing on your Galaxy Tab's (and other tablets). Have I missed anything?

Best

Phil

Yep, I noticed that.

I did post the Best Buy deal in the General 8.9 forum but there doesn't seem to be much happening in there either.

Do I detect that you don't really want me posting here? Not sure why, as I stated, I was just calling out to the others who had been here back then and even stated it was just in case others had subscribed to the link. Just curious.

Post away, it's not an issue. I just thought the 8.9 section needs all the help it can get from the users :)
