Slingbox pro HD on Galaxy Tab 7 (SCH-I800) Getting Slingplayer to work

My Galaxy Tab is a SCH-I800. I have a Sling Box pro HD. I saw that you need Firmware that is 3.0 or higher to use Slingbox pro HD - Slingplayer.
Question- Could I root my device and upgrade to a 3.0 Firmware or The Galaxy Tab is limited to the <3.0 firmware only.

Is there a way around the limitation if there is one.
Anyone have any experience with Slingbox on a Galaxy Tab 7.

Also, I used my PC with my Slingbox and I see now how apps are a joke when you can watch your own TV choices from TV shows, Movies, etc. recorded or live from your own TV. So easy, great ROI.

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
