I use AVG Free, though I've only had my Tab for about a week, so take that as you will.

It's time for me to renew my McAfee subscription for my two laptops. We just got the 10.1 Galaxy Tab. Could someone please help me decide what antivirus software would be best and hopefully not expensive? Should antivirus software be put on my Samsung Galaxy Smartphone too? I'm not exactly tech saavy but I have some knowledge.

Just want to put in my 2 cents as an IT professional here. Always run some sort of anti-virus on your device. It may not be for your protection, but to prevent the virus from inadvertently spreading to others.

Example:
You receive an email with a mildly amusing joke. You fail to notice an attachment to the email, and forward it along to someone else. They look at it on a PC, and bam! Virus.

If you know what you're doing, and you can fix the issues if you get a virus, then do what you like. If you don't, then put in an AV of some kind. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Personally, I use AVG on my android devices. It works just fine. I've got Avast on my home PC, but it doesn't look like they have a mobile version as of yet.

Again, this is just my view, as an IT Professional. Take it as you will.

The free version of AVG has several functions beyond a simple anti-virus. Not only does it scan your apps and files, but it scans incoming SMS messages, it has web surfing protection (if you go to known virulent sites, it should warn you), and it has some remote wipe/locking abilities as well. I believe this explains why it needs access to so many "odd" things. It can't remotely wipe the device if it doesn't have access to everything. You can see a basic list of what the AVG tool does here:

http://www.avg.com/c...rus-for-android

Hope that helps!

I just got my Galaxy 8.9 Tab and I also received a free download of some virus protection software, which I haven't downloaded yet.

Is it required to have on the android platform?

If so what do you recommend?

I'm a little nervous because when I received my tab by UPS I opened up the package and when I got to the tab box, one of the "do not accept" seals had been broken. The other was intact. I could take the tab out of the box without breaking the other seal.

I e-mailed the company (Circuit City) about my concerns and they said "don't worry, be assured your product is new" Hmmmm.

Virus protection software is a personal choice, AVG is a popular one with members.

It not nice to have the worry that your Tab may have been tampered with but the fact that you have reported this and it will be on record, should give you some reassurance if you later discover a problem.

Any suggestions for a security/antivirus app for the galaxy tab 10.1? I put Outlook on my android phone and it seems to be working well.
Thanks.

Hello dears,
I just bought a Galaxy Tab, I would like to take your recommendation regarding the best antivirus I can use on it, and do the viruses make a big concern for the android? Also could you recommend the best market that has a lot of valuable apps.

Thanks,

Hello techone, Anti virus software is available.
AVG is one commonly used by people in here. Others exist. Do a "Forum Search" for more information

Your Tab comes with a link to the android market run by Google. The shortcut is "Play Store".
You will find antivirus software in there and 100,000,000 Apps.
Other markets such as AppBrain do exist.
