Of all the reports I've seen, not one has said they have received the tab from Simply Electronics. Going on that, I'd stay well away.
The wifi only version has been released in a couple of countries so far (e.g. Australia) but no UK date has been announced as far as I know.
It shouldn't be too long though.
Personally, I almost ready to give up waiting. Especially if they release the wifi only one in the UK and we have to wait another age for the 3G version.

The company is also Hongkong-based like Simply Electronics but I only found very good reviews, most of them 4 or 5 of 5 stars. I've ordered mine there today, we will see what happens.

I totally agree. Talk about missing the boat ! This device is starting to look old hat and it's STILL not even out. I was very excited about this device - way back when - but its looking so last year now it's starting to whiff a bit !

Done a bit of digging on this. The Tab 7.7 was released on 22nd Nov 2011 in Hong Kong so the Simply Electronics and Panamoz deals are indeed real, and not as some are saying, scams. Indeed, if you do some looking on the AV forums there are people who have ordered and received from these companies. £436 +£9 delivery for the 3G 16GB version is brilliant value when you have to pay £500 for the equivalent 7 plus model in the UK. Delivered from Hong Kong.

Thanks, they do look quite trustworthy. I might just give them a go myself.
I'll look forward to hearing how it goes for you.

Cheers for the digging queeg. Much appreciated.
You going to make a purchase or wait for a UK release still?
I have to admit, I'm finding all this missing IR port stuff a bit off putting but I'll probably still go for it.

The missing IR port is also a bit of a bummer for me too - althought ! If i am honest, I had this facility WAY back on an iPAQ 2200 (circa 2003, and still working !!) and thought it would be great to use with the Home Cinema. Trouble is I never used it more than a couple of times. Why? Well it was just easier to pick up the normal remote rather than press the iPAQ power button, find the app, launch the app, select the device in the app then zap ! The ability to record macros on it was cool and pressing one button to do several things at once was quite good, but again was only really used when showing off to relatives !
I thougth I had got this damn device out of my system. What with all the delays, me buying a Note and finding it surplanting the tab in bed and the projected cost. It was going to be a 40th birthday presant from my wife in December, but that never happened for obvious reasons. Trouble is, looking at the price from Hong Kong, its damn tempting as you know it's never going to get to that price here in the UK (original tab is best part of £400 still ) and people are paying £500 for the tab 7 plus, which if we are honest is a bit of an also ran, and my fear is it would get the same treatment as the original wifi tab with no updates.
I almost pushed the button twice yesterday, my hesitation being how good the Note is and it's only an extra 2 inches (which my wife keeps telling me is important ?
You would think by now I would be old enough to control myself with shiny tech

Sounds like we are very much in the same boat. I actually hit the button yesterday but got blocked by my bank due to the cost and it being an overseas purchase. I saw that as a sign. I was also going to get the note but decided against it as I only want one 3G device and the 7.7 won that battle. How are you finding the note BTW?
You make a very good point about the sell on price and that could sway me. I've clearly got some thinking to do.

I think we are indeed. After discussions with SWMBO "we" have decided that "I" don't need yet another mobile device (which is quite correct although I would never admit it !!). It was always my intention to get the 7.7 but (you can read about the Note purchase down in the Note "dungeons") I have discovered a new joy with the Note. A single device that covers both bases well. The problem for me is the 7.7 is just a Note with a 2inch bigger screen, poorer cameras and no stylus. If I'm honest it's just too similar to warrant owning both and being a big lad ! the Note looks like a normal phone in my mits !
Whats that dear? No I'm not talking about that "BEEP" tablet again !

Damn you Queeg!! Your glowing opinions on the note have only served to confuse me further. Like you say there's no point owning both but I sure as hell gotta have one of them. At least I think I do.
Maybe I'll just wait and see what CES throws into the mix. There will almost certainly be something more appealing announced and I can start the wait for new tech all over again. Not ideal but it is saving me a shed load of dosh not buying anything.

Just read that Asus have announced at CES they are introducing a 7inch transformer prime complete with tegra3 quad core. Sub$300 price. Could be good?

Cheers queeg,
Yeah I saw that but for me, despite the high spec and low cost, it doesn't have that wow factor the 7.7 had when I first clapped eyes on it. I'm very keen to find out some more about it though.

Here's a photo album with some first pictures. I also made an unboxing and walk-though video but that needs some work so I can upload it only tomorrow or on Friday.

Thats great news. I have read of several people recently getting 7.7's from them in speedy time and at a great price. If you are after one they seem to be the people to get it from if you don't fancy paying UK prices !
