Resolution and file extention of wallpaper to achieve perfectly sharp wallpaper

My question is, as described in the topic, what extention and size should I use to achieve best possible wallpaper quality?
Tried 1024x1200 with .png and the result is pretty poor :(

I tried, the effect is the same.
A lot of people describes the same issue with android.
The image simply losses clarity after being put as a wallpaper.

Has anyone found a solution ?
