Hi all, if I'm using my Galaxy Tablet at home on wifi only plus the phone, can I set it at GSM?

Is Wcdma used just for the data please?

Thanks

on wifi the Tab doesn't use either GSM or WCDMA, GSM & WCDMA are used for connecting to the Sim service provider (phone & data)
Network Mode, I have this set at GSM/WCDMA (auto mode) so the Tab picks whichever is best

Thanks, but I don't think I'm making myself clear as usual :)

I have a contract with Orange and use both the phone and wifi, I do not want to use the data over Oranges network but do still want to recieve and make calls.

Am trying to stop everything that uses any unnessasary battery use etc and wondered whether the WCDMA is only used for the data part of Oranges network hence would setting to GSM only still allow me to make and recieve calls.

Thanks

no problem, just goto settings, wireless & network, mobile networks, uncheck "Use packet data"

this will still allow you to make & receive phone calls but wont use the data connection for anything
you will be able to send & receive text messages also but if you send or receive an sms message (photo etc)
you will get a message saying there is one, but you need to allow packet data to receive it

you can still use the wifi as normal when connected at home or to a wifi hotspot
if you need to update something when away from the wifi, then you have to allow packet data ( Google Maps for example)

in settings, wireless & network, Wi-Fi settings, menu, advanced, Wi-fi sleep policy - setting that to "When screen turns off"
will save some battery use as will setting your Email to "email check frequency" Never ( it updates when you check your mail)
