Hi all,
Im new to the forum. I recently purchased an import galaxy tab 10.1 from the us and I cannot for the life of me get it to connect via usb. I have tried the following:
Installed latest kies software. No joy
Installed drivers only. No joy
Installed kies and the drivers overlaid. No joy
Installed drives and then installed kies. No joy
uninstalled both and tried connecting driverless. No joy
I have attempted this on both xp sp 3 and vista. No joy
Debugging mode is off. No joy
I managed to get the drivers to install upon connection of the tab. It recognises the device as samsung_aneroid usb device and says device successfully installed. However once the successfully installed message comes up the device disappears from the device manager never to be seen again. There is no sign of it at all in the device manager or my computer. However the tab says that it is "mtp-connected". I've been trawling the internet and cannot find a solution, I am currently close to throwing the thing out the window, lol. I have tried to transfer large files via kies wifi but it is pretty slow and drops out after a few minutes so is not ideal.
Hopefully someone can shed some light? Thanks in advance.
Aaron

do you have "Auto-Play" selected on your PC in Control Panel, Auto Play,
scroll down to Devices, set the Galaxy Tab to "Ask me every time"

Hi Thanks for the quick response. I tried this but the galaxy tab isn't even showing in the list of autoplay devices. So i turned off all autoplays and still no joy.
As i said the GT is showing that it is 'MTP-connected' but the pc isnt showing it in the 'device manager' list or in 'my computer'. So it is like the PC doesnt even know its there, yet when i first connected it, it installed the drivers and said device installed correctly, it appeared in the device manager as samsung_android and then dissapears. :-(

From what i have read the GT should be listed under 'portable devices' in the device manager yet there is nothing there when connected. Can you confirm if this is where i should be seeing the GT?
I have just connected my iphone and this immediately shows up as 'apple iphone' under portable devices using the same usb port.

That is where it shows on my PC (Win7 x64).
May want to:
- ensure tablet is not locked
- Scan for hardware changes in device manager
- Show hidden devices in device manager, and check for anything tablet related or that shows a error/warning
- Run connection troubleshooter in Kies
- Reset the tablet back to factory defaults (I also had no end of trouble getting Kies to work - this is what ultimately resolved the issue)

Thanks zebs, i have tried all of the above to no avail. I have just finished reinstalling my Vista OS, factory resetting my tab and installing the latest version of Kies on a fresh OS and still no joy! It just does exactly the same thing, successfully installs as a Samsung USB composite device and then disappears from the device manager and no matter what i do it wont reappear. I thought it may be the usb cable but the fact that it installs ok, shows up as MTP-Connected on the tab i dont see how it could be.
Any more ideas would be most appreciated as im close to sending it back. During my search for a resolution i have read no end of people struggling with OS's and Kies. I had high hopes for this tab but am slowly losing faith.

I have the same issue here. I'm using MacBook Pro and my GT won't connect. I've tried download and using Android File transfer.. No go, Tried install Kies works! but can't find how to transfer other data than music, photo and video.
Still can't connected till now, but last night I found this tiny Samsung Flash disc adaptor that can make GT connect to USB flash disc. So I can copy any data from my Mac and plug the flash disc to my GT and copy it. Simple! and this flash disc actually can be my "external hard disc" for my 16 Gb GT.

I ended up sending mine back and am awaiting a replacement. I have noticed that a few users were having issues via mac, but believe the latest version of kies resolved this.
I could actually deal with kies not functioning as long as i could drag and drop to the device but the problem i had is that my PCs (all three of them!) didnt even recognise the device. :-(

Hi Amoani,
Did you get this sorted as I have the EXACT same issue and I can't it to connect no matter what I do :-( I put a post up here about it (http://forum.xda-dev...=1#post18997403) It is looking more and more like I will have to send it back to Samsung.....
Cheers,
M

I'm having the same problem and until now (already 10 days ) unable to connect to PC. But yesterday I've tried to connect my GT to my friend's PC and it works well. He is using the HP computer with Windows 7 while my PC is Dell with Windows XP Professional (SP3). So it is not the GT but the PC connection and the MTP driver... Still hoping for a solution....

on your XP PC unplug any USB connections you have
open Device Manager, expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers
check there are no "USB Mass Storage Device" showing
set your Tab to Settings, Wireless & network, USB settings, Mass Storage
connect Tab to XP via USB Cable, tap "Turn on USB storage"
check on PC, you should now see "USB Mass Storage Device"
on the Tab, tap "Turn off USB storage"
on the PC, right click the "USB Mass Storage Device", select Uninstall
disconnect your Tab from the PC
on your PC download Samsung USB Driver Windows XP

install on PC
connect Tab to PC & it should be seen
