I bought my Tab a couple of days ago and this was my first encounter with the Android OS. I'm a retired PC technician who worked as an in-store Tech Guy for PC World. Once charged up via its USB cable and 2amp PSU, I connected it to my Windows 7 PC with the same USB cable. As mentioned in the user guide, it won't charge via a normal USB port with its 500mA current capability, or indeed via my USB3 ports which can deliver 1amp (1000mA).
I downloaded and installed Samsung Kies and started to use it to transfer my edited photos, 26530 of them in 284 folders. Transfer speed seemed quite fast but on later inspection I found it had missed the bulk of them altogether, sorting them by date but losing the folder structure completely. I deleted them after I discovered I could drag and drop in the traditional way by double-clicking the tablet's icon on Windows Explorer.
Nevertheless the quirkiness of the USB MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) had several implications. More info here
On one of my PC's hard disk partitions the following folders appeared: Application, Backup, EBook, Music, Photo, PIMS, Podcast, Ringtone. These were all empty so I deleted them only to find they reappeared after the next file transfer. I hadn't started Kies and only used drag and drop for one movie. The MTP drivers intervened and I allowed it to convert the MP4 movie to WMA. When the tablet displayed a syncing icon I guessed the drivers would recreate the empty folders on my PC, and I was right.
Another quirk of MTP is incorrectly classifying media, showing inappropiate columns in file view e.g. Artist or Genre for photos in a Pictures folder.
However I'm delighted that I could easily copy all my edited photos + another 10000 of other photos, without the awful iTunes experience of it making low-res copies of everthing and creating 'libraries' which I detest. (I have an iPod Touch and a Mac Mini as well as PCs.) I like folders not libraries, and I've already edited my photos for the screen.
Favourite apps so far: Angry Birds Rio, ES File Explorer, Edinburgh Bus Tracker, Google Sky Map, Open Office, Orbital, Polaris Office, Speedx 3D, Sprinkle, TimeLapse!.

I would like to be able to store images from my Canon 40D Digital Camera on my Tablet while I'm travelling. It would also be nice to be able to view them on something larger than the LCD on the back of the camera. The camera has a USB cable and I've just ordered a USB/30 pin adaptor. I record images on the camera in JPEG and RAW, but I don't expect to be able to view the RAW files until I get home to my PC. I don’t want to cart a laptop with me when I go travelling … but I do take my cameras. I was hoping that the Tab would read the card in the camera in much the same way as it can read a Flashdrive.
According to the Super Moderator, if anybody knows how to do this, you do. Grateful for any advice.
