I have a Galaxy GT P1010, no 3G
I have downloaded Kies to my PC and when I connect my tablet the PC says 'Found New Hardware' but nothing appears in 'my Computer'
When I ask Kies to connect to my tablet the circle goes round and round ( I have left it for an hour or so). Eventually it says downloaded successfully, please restart, but when I do it is not recognised.
I am 'intermediate' with computers.
Can anybody help?
Thanks in advance

Im using the 7" tab may be it will work also with you. Go to setting-wireless setting- usb setting - choose kies. Open ur kies and connect ur tab with the usb. Give it a try.

Gmask is correct, that should solve your problem. You should set your tab to kies before you plug the cable into your pc. It sometimes takes a while for your pc to connect and then your Tab screen will go black.
I think I also turn the wifi off when I connect to kies.
Good luck

Thanks for your advice.
I have turned off the wi-fi and set the tab to Kies. I then plugged in the cable to the PC and nothing after 10 mins.
How long should I wait?
Also, can I connect to 3G using a dongle with a sim card fitted?

have you tried both options, connecting with USB Debugging Disabled & then Try with USB Debugging Enabled
USB Debugging --- 1. From a Home screen, press the Menu Key âž” Settings
âž” Applications âž” Development.
2. Touch USB debugging to enable or disable the setting.
When enabled, a check mark appears in the check box.

I have decided I am a beginner, so can we start from the beginning, please?
I have the Samsung GT P1010, the computer, and the USB cable.
The Samsung is set to de-bugging.
Kies is downloaded to the computer and although it opened once for me, I can't get it to open again!!
What order should I now set up the file transfer?
Please help.

Fresh Start, (with Tab & PC NOT connected)
on the PC open Kies, if it does not open, goto Control Panel, Programs & Features, find Samsung Kies & Uninstall,
download a fresh copy of Kies from Samsung Support, Install the fresh copy
open kies, in the top bar click on Help, check for updates --- click on Tools, Install driver --- reboot PC

Touch USB debugging to enable or disable the setting. When enabled, a check mark appears in the check box.
(try it first with debugging DISABLED (no check mark in the box)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
now Connection, first open Kies on the pc, connect your Tab to PC via the USB cable, should give you a dark screen
on the Tab with an USB Icon, a moving dotted line & connected
on the PC you should have the phone icon "Connecting" with a whirling disk as it tries to connect, once its connected you
should see on the PC the phone icon followed by GT-P1010
if you click on that "Line", you should get a page with "Basic Information", "Sync", "Import/Export", "Back up/Restore"
on the "Basic Information" page you should see an option to "View in Explorer" your Tab Memory, from there you can
drag & drop files & or folders from your PC to Tab & from Tab to PC, you can also edit files & folders on the Tab from your PC

I have uninstalled my copy of Kies, and reinstalled it.
The problem is it won't open!!!
The tablet is NOT connected.
When I try to open Kies from the 'shortcut' my desktop goes black for a moment and then returns to normal It moves my Yahoo widget clock to another position - weird.
Any ideas?

Is it possible I am downloading the wrong version? When I go to support I have to choose between GT P1010/M16 and GT P1010/W16.
There is nothing on my tablet nor on the box to say which it is.

I checked the Samsung Support site, GT-P1010/M16 & GT-P1010W16 both pages show the same version of Kies for PC to download (Kies_2.0.2.11071_128.exe (82.5mb)),
you are using a PC & not a MAC ? --- what version of Windows are you running ? (if its Windows 7 or Vista, try right clicking the downloaded Kies Installation file & select Run as Administrator, windowsXP just double click to install)
right click your Kies desktop shortcut, select properties, Win7 & Vista select "open file location" --- WinXP select "find Target" -- then right click Kies.exe & select Run as Administrator Win7 & Vista, windowsXP select open
if all this fails, can you try on another PC (friend, relation, neighbour, colleague)

Hi,
Well I was about to give up when I found and tried the Microsoft compatibility wizard. I checked the windows 98 but then unchecked all the others.
I then reduced my screen resolution and suddenly Kies opened!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know if it because of the resolution change, or unchecking the boxes by chance. Still it is now up and running. I am a bit afraid pt turn off my PC in case it won't open tomorrow, but we shall see.
Can't thank you enough for your help. If you lived nearby I would by you a drink. (I am in Surrey, near Leatherhead)

But NOT today.
Any ideas?

if you connected the Tab with Kies once, you will have the correct drivers on your pc now to connect your Tab, try setting the Tab USB to "Mass Storage" & connecting to your PC, the Tab should show as extra Hard Disk Drive/s on your PC in "My Computer"

Hi again,
The tab shows in 'My Computer'.
The problem is Kies won't now open either with the tab connected or not connected.

until you can get Kies sorted on your pc, you might try "My Phone Explorer" app needed for Tab, download needed for PC
