Best stylus for the tab
Posted 31 December 2010 - 10:34 PM (#1)
Any recommendations for a good stylus for the galaxy? I have tried the Box wave but didn't work too well.

I have a Boxwave one delivered yesterday so I will try a bit later. Have you used a stylus for hand writing inout or just for on screen selections? I was looking for s stylus for hand writing inout.

I recently ordered and received the Conductive Stylus from Samsung. The price is $19.99 USD plus shipping, and it was delivered promptly.
The pen is advertised to work on all conductive touch screens. It is a well-made, good-looking stylus, nice weight and size for the hand, and is shiny black and silver with a pen clip. The box mentions the stylus "duplicates fingertip scroll and touch actions" and it certainly does, and does that well. However, my main purpose in purchasing this stylus was as a tool for drawing with the sketchbook application I use. For this purpose, the stylus is a bit disappointing.
I found it takes a solid pressure when using it as a drawing pen, and even with added pressure it will sometimes cause a skip in a line. At first I thought my tab's screen just needed a thorough cleaning, but it still would skip from time to time on a well cleaned screen. Additionally, because it takes a firm pressure to register a drawing line, it is most difficult to do some of the finer work that is possible with just a fingertip that would indicate a thicker to thinner line, or heavier to lighter pressure shading. So, on the one hand, I can see my drawing position better with the stylus tip, but on the other it doesn't do much good when it won't draw a smooth line without skips and misses.
I should have paid more attention to the part of the description that pointed out the now obvious: it is perfect for duplicating fingertip scrolling and touch actions. For drawing and/or sketching ... not so much!

I've just got a Krusell Stylus Pen (£6.95 from BMCDigital.co.uk) which was advertised as being suitable for capacitive screens. However sliding is almost impossible I can't even unlock my screen (I use an Unlock Pattern). It is fine for tapping the keyboard, though I find Swipe is faster. It does seem to enable more acurate tapping on webpages - especially if the page has not been zoomed.
So in summary, for tapping screen it is probably better than my fingers, but for sliding, zooming then fingers win hands down

for drawing. There are some really nice drawing apps out there and the tablet makes a nice sketchpad. I'm an artist so I almost always have at least a small sketchpad within grabbing distance...being able to let the galaxy replace that permanently would be nice.
Please let me know if you find a good stylus. It would be amazing to find something that works as good as my wacom tablet, but is portable.

I bought a Targus stylus at Best Buy for $19.99. I am not very happy with it. It doesn't work as well as my finger (have to push harder) though it is a bit more accurate. Is there anything that works like the stylus from the old PDA's?

I have tried lots of styli that work on the iPad but don't work on the Tab. I have tried Pogo, Boxwave, Arcase & Stylus Sock! It is annoying that Samsung did not release the promised BT stylus and hand writing app.

I bought 4 different stylii on eBay, as little as a buck each in lot of 10.
They work just as well as the $20 kind from Verizon.
Using one now.
What you want is a rounded bulb on the end.

Dagi stylus maybe? I mean, for drawing/handwriting.
Mind you, I've no connection to Dagi, and I don't even own a piece. Any artist would be welcome to try and review it here (maybe, with a video). Google it out, or just check Dagi Review

Hi, I just bought my Galaxy Tab 7 and although it has a Memo app, does anyone know if there's an app that I can write with a stylus pen to keep notes? Would really appreciate it if any knows about this! Thanks!

Stylus Note apps, Android Market search for 'Sketch Memo' give 3 pages of suitable apps
the stock Memo app is not much use, can't save & view the memo's on pc or email them,
try TxtPad Lite from Android Market, you can save memo's, backup to PC & send via Bluetooth,
Dropbox, Email, Gmail, Messaging

Hi everyone, does anyone know where I can get a stylus for my tab, I have tried three so far. I am looking for a pointy one so that I can use it like a pen.

You won't get a pointy one for a Tab, because this type of screen needs a capacitive touch device......which by it's nature has to be more substantial to work correctly.
In fact, no stylus works very well with the Tab.....you might just as well use your finger !
