Why get a tablet when you can get a laptop for cheaper, thats ALOT faster and a ton more memory. What's the point of also getting a keyboard attachment to turn it into a laptop for a lot more money unstead of just getting a laptop. Laptops now a days with 4 gb memory 2.3 dual core proccesor (i3) and 320 gb cost $430. Ipad cost $500 for cheapest. Laptops have a ton more features.

Also laptops get updates a lot are usually never buggy (depending on what you get) and a lot faster (with cheap $10 virus protection). Also portability is the same with the 10 inch screens tabs and laptops (the tab maybe thinner but still same width and length) you still need to carry it around you can't put it in your pocket. Which laptops and ipads bolth usually have carrying cases. Weight isn't a problem because its not like you are walking around with a ipad in front of you. Laptops you just pot on your lap. Please answer (sorry its so long)

Answer thanks

Battery life is one of the bigger benefits of a tab over a laptop, touchscreen input is another. Personally I find the 10" models too bulky to carry around and deliberately went for the 7" which will fit in many jacket pockets or a small day bag with ease and also covers my phone needs.

some people like how easy they are. i have a 7" SGT and it fits in most pants pockets. i can stand on the train and use it with both hands and battery lasts an entire weekend. No moving parts so battery life is batter and does not get hot. Can easily turn it on and off without Booting Up. Apps and games are easy to install and use. Touchscreen over a mouse on moving transport and while walking. Pads also connect to social media better then a laptop.

You will find they should not really be compared like that. Get what fits your needs. I can commute to work with a 10" laptop and do all i need (emails, FB, ebooks, browsing) and my Nano does not get emails. You will also find the apps for pads do not need 2.3 ghz or 350gig hdd. the space on pads are more so for music, movies and files rather then massive windows programs. You can get keyboards for pads, i have one but only pull it out when needed. Most pads these days also have mobile internet as most laptops still need to connect over usb or wifi to a phone to get the net. draining 2 batteries.

also as above mentioned, a pad/tab can also cover mobile phone needs if set up that way.

so for me, i cant imagine pulling out a 10: with keyboard, open it, boot it up, plug my earphones in and leave it open while i listen to music.

If you want a device for power for work or word docs or windows programs, get a laptop, If you want an easy to use mobile device bigger then a phone, get a pad. Pads dont really try to be laptops and laptops dont really try to be pads.

Hope this helps answer your question.

Well there is 3g sticks for laptops. I'm talking about tablets that you can't fit into your pocket (asus ipad) I have a 7 inch Samsung tab also. I know but laptops can do so many more thing for.less money. I think its just a market gimmick. Games on laptops are.usually a lot better and detailed. You can also put a laptop to sleep easily. A tab is between a smartphone and laptop which is not required. Overpriced

People don't really.need tabs unless for games. Working with one is impossible

silly generalisation - whilst it may be impossible for you to work with a tab doesn't mean it is for everybody else.

I can effortlessly review cad drawings, comment on them, email clients etc whilst travelling - that's work to me :)

If you'd rather have a laptop then buy one and I think that once you get up to a 10" screen your general point becomes more relevant but the 7" tab is a completely different case and whereas I hardly ever leave the house with my laptop the ta goes everywhere with me

Sorry, but you talk a load of rubbish....

Tablets have their place as computer devices, just like all the rest of them. My 7inch Tab gives me an excellent multimedia and navigation system in my car, along with a multitude of other functions.

I also have a netbook....you'll be telling me next I shouldn't have purchased that !

You say you have a 7inch Tab, which you are obviously not achieving it's full potential.

You must have something other than criticism for tablets, otherwise what are you doing here ??

Well i mean they are nice and all but if seen ipad commercials that show people using the ipad to jobs like being a teacher and doctor. People don't use it for that. I've neverseen anyone use it for that. tabs are kindof overpriced with what it actually comes with tech spec wise

I take your point....

TV commercials are terrible for having shortened versions of operating sequences for technical gadgets, so it's any wonder that some people are disappointed when they try the real thing in a working environment.

But seriously, the Tab is an excellent device, especially in the 7 inch format. If you spend a bit more time looking into the capabilities of the Tab and how you can put them to your own use, I think you will come to like it more as time goes by.

I think you need to look in the right places. Every area manager etc within our company has an ipad for business. I sell tablets and ipads.at work and i can hand on heart say a good 40 to 50% are bought by reps, for businesses etc etc. Why take a chunky laptop when you can take a tablet. A tablet doesnt really need an i3 chip, just think though, there are tablets on the way with i5 or i7 chips - they will shred a laptop for speed.

Example: a garage door manufacturer bought a load from us as he has had an app developed to work electronic garage doors and manage integrated lighting systems.

A company that sells custom car parts uses them to take to shows and clients to share their portfolio.

They look profesional, much lighter to carry than a laptop and i could go on.

Keep in mind that not everyone wants to be pigeon holed into a windows o.s - most of the mobile devices are not windows based. Maybe its the main reason people are shifting? Who knows.

As for the keyboard thing - why are pc manufacturers looking to all in ones with touch screens?

I dont use word on my tablet but i do use wordpress and to be fair i would like a keyboard for typing articles. Its flexible so i can add one if i want but then remove it for normal use. Convenience and options.

All these devices boil down to the users needs. For all i use my tab for a laptops specs would be wasted. I dont take my tab out so the bigger tabs are my next purchase.

Its not meant to be a laptop so bother comparing to one? Its a different device, more portable, longer battery and convenient. For me its a big phone that can do all konds of cool things. I still use my laptop at work for productivity i just dont take it home with me any more as i can use the tab to keep me occupied during my commute.

Tabs are expensive because they are still on their infancy as products. Already the price has plummeted, in another year or two the costs will come down and the market price will fall.

Why a tab? I thought the same thing until I played with my wife's iPad... then ended up getting my own Galaxy Tab 7" Wifi and an Acer Iconica.

I've had laptops and netbooks and while I'm not stating that one is ABSOLUTELY better than the other, they each have there merits. A tablet may not be for everyone.

Why a tab for me...? Pretty much instant access from sleep mode. I had a netbook that I installed 2 gigs of of ram AND an OCZ Agility 2 SSD and the "instantaneous-ness" of my Iconia blows the netbook out of the water.

Size and weight. With my Galaxy tab, as others have stated, I can fit it in most of my pants pockets. Even with my Acer tab, there is no comparison. It is by far lighter. But it is not too big to be obtrusive. Both laptops and netbooks MUST be opened to access the keyboard, in essence making them bigger and bulkier than any 10" tab.

$15 bucks to not only read MS Word and Excel files BUT also create them (there are some apps that are more but $15 gave me all the functionality I need). And lets not forget Google Docs either.

Oh... and the most important reason... because I wanted one!

Just a couple of reasons... and no, it's not too difficult to use the on-screenvirtual keyboard. :-)

I think the tab fills a space in market.

I have a laptop if i want to do real things on.

however for ebook reading, doing emails, playing a few games whilst out and about.

an iPad is too heavy as an ebook reader in bed but a congenitally ebook reader has limited functionality.

pays your money, make your choice but having been through iPad 2, various ebooks etc the tab will do for the time being.

I bought the tab because I need a phone :). My 3G phone is 6 years old and I was initially looking at Asus transformer. But no 3G feature. So I end up with the tab. I have a netbook Lenovo S10-3 which I thought is already very portable but failed the upgrade I tried by adding Sierra wireless 3G card to make it a 3G netbook/ phone with GPS :(.

Of course using the tab as a phone practically needs a bluetooth headset.

Keyboard size for me was crucial... a few years ago I couldn't see to txt on a phone without my glasses, and I hated the multi choice keys. Whereas, I didn't need glasses for my tab and the keyboard was really simple.
Obviously things have moved on with phones now and if I had my options again, the GTab NOTE would be my initial choice. Easy keyboard but phone in size.
However, I travel a lot and there's no beating a 7" Tab for movies on the go, so I probably would still go for a 7" Tab and hope that someone would buy me a NOTE as well, both would fit nicely in my handbag :)

After 6 months I actually read the manual from front to back and researched apps, etc....The 7 tab is very versatile for it's size.....I never take my laptop except for longer trips......
