ICS on 7 plus and others

ADDING BROWSER BOOKMARKS- something simple

Hi all! I was having a bit of trouble when trying to organize my newly created bookmarks and finally figured it out and would like to share it. Please delete this if something like this has been posted.

Start from beginning~

[OPEN YOUR ICS STOCK BROWSER] (Quick Control is not enabled)
[ADD A BOOKMARK]
Add a bookmark: Click on the "star" next to your URL search bar.

Add a bookmark to your homescreen as an icon for easy access: Click on the top right button with 3 lines, go to "add shortcut to home"

[GO TO YOUR BOOKMARKS]
Access bookmarks: Click on the "star flag symbol" on top right.
Delete, edit, share lnks, add shortcut, open bookmarks : Long click your bookmarks
Create New Folder in bookmarks section: Click on the top right button with 3 lines, go to "Edit Bookmarks". Click on add folder symbol on top right.
To change order of bookmarks: You cannot just drag the bookmarks up and down, so while you are in the "Edit Bookmarks", click on far top right "change order" symbol, now you can change the order of your bookmarks.
Organize exsiting bookmarks into a specific folder: You cannot just drag it onto the folder that you wish. You have to edit your bookmarks and change the location to the specific folder.

And, That's it!

If anyone knows a faster way, please let me know, thanks!

*I do not use quick control because I found it annoying to use. When I want to click on a content on far right, it would pop up and cover the content that I want to view.

Thanks to Samsung girl for taking her time to post this information

How To Remove DEFAULT TELEPHONE NUMBER IN CONTACTS/BUDDY's
( a Honeycomb 7 plus issue/ ? others )

A few months ago member Rocknoise and I had this problem and he came up with the solution below.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok, here is something I found out.

found something in a forum written by jraggio:

"If you would like no default number, Edit contact, add new number, enter any number (to be deleted), set default to this new number , then delete the new number. The shortcut will revert back to the multiple number option."

This is the best workaround in my opinion. whithout the option to remove default this workaround works best for me without deleting any numbers and i dont have to reenter it either :) *fuzzylittlebrain* Thanks Rocknoise

Unusual Notification symbol Tab 2 users

If you get a circle with a line through it and a lower case i in the middle
and your notification sounds arn't playing, even though the rest of the sounds and volume is working fine.

That icon is telling you that notifications have been turned off. To turn them back on, just tap on the time and scroll right on the "on/off bar" until you see the "Notification" tile (lower-case "i" in a circle) and it will be gray - tap on it to turn in back on and the icon will go away.

Thanks to BrianG for this advice

CREATING FOLDERS ON ICS 4.04 Gtab 7.7 DESKTOP/? ICS others.

In the past OS versions the following has been the established route......
search for the space on your homescreen and then tap on Menu, then tap on Create Folder option.
As soon as you do that the folder will be created and you just need to drag and drop apps shortcut on to the folder.
To arrange the apps according to your choice you can create multiple folders and give specifications name for the same like Games, Tools and widgets.

The naming of the folder is little more complicated. Once the folder is created you need to open it and on the 'unnamed folder' title you need to tap on the text & hold for few seconds, then you can rename the folder, When you are done press on OK.

HOWEVER - this now seems to be the alternative way to do it on the newer updates.

From Member VBX

Just press and hold onto an icon app. A drop down menu will pop up and you just tap on "Create a folder". The icon will automatically be in the new folder. Tap on the folder to give it a name.

You have both now, so one should work :good:

Attachments
Depending on where in the community you are posting your message at, you may be able to upload attachments to your message. There are two types of uploaders available: the default uploader and the flash uploader.

Default Uploader
The default uploader allows you to upload attachments one at a time. To begin, press the [Choose File] button. A box will appear for you to select the file on your computer that you want to attach. Select the file you want to upload.

If you change your mind, you can press the [Clear Selection] button and then choose a different file.

Once you have selected the file you want, press [Attach the file].
If there are any errors uploading the file, you will receive an error message, otherwise, you will see the attachment appear.

Flash Uploader
You can enable the flash uploader from your settings menu. When enabled, you will be able to easily upload more than one file at a time.

To start, press [Click to Attach Files]. A box will appear for you to select the file or files on your computer that you want to attach. Select the file or files you want to upload. You can select more than one file at a time by holding Ctrl (on Windows) or Command (on Mac) and click on the files.

Once you have selected your files and clicked "Open", they will begin uploading. If there are any errors uploading the files, you will receive an error message, otherwise, you will see the attachments appear.

Managing Attachments
Regardless of which uploader you use, once the files are uploaded you will see them on your screen. By default, all attachments are added to the bottom of your message, however, you can add any attachment to a particular section of your post by pressing the "Add to Post" link.

If you wish to remove an attachment and have it not appear in your post, simply press the "Delete" link.

Being MUGGED for your mobile phone and Data Protection.
What can you do ?...........

A recent article in the London Evening Standard newspaper, revealed the increased level of mugging that has gone on since the launch of the iphone 5 (excuse the dirty word) users being twice as likely to be mugged compared to other mobile users. This is directly related to the flaw in its tracking software.
A flaw which Samsung does not have…..... :clapping: :clapping:

According to the article, iphone users are being targeted for mugging specifically while they are using their phones. This is because of the flaw in the FIND MY iPHONE software on the device, which allows a user to disable the tracker as long as the screen is in unlock mode. So the muggers immediately disable the tracking system and your phone is no longer traceable.

Here's where Sammy wins …………… :yahoo:

On our tablets and phones, our tracker system IS password protected, so even if we are mugged while engaged in an activity on our phones, the thieves cannot disable our trackers.
NB This may not apply to custom Roms users

So here's some simple tips to keeping your data safe and increasing the chances of the police finding your Samsung device.

The minimum security feature everyone should enable is the LOCK SCREEN feature.
A password is the safest code but if you use a numeric code, then make it at least 6 digits.
The jury is still out on facial recognition.

Secondly it is well worth while enabling the “find my mobile” Tracker.
Models vary in terminology but you should find this feature in the Security section of your settings.
More current Samsung phones have this feature enabled by default, older tabs and phones require user action.

Familiarize yourself with the pc software http://www.samsungdive.com/DiveMain.do
and input your mobile phone number on the site.
From this site you can lock your phone and erase data remotely, as well as allowing the police to track it for you.

Sim Card change Alert and encrypting SD cards are also good security features if you value your data and your contacts privacy.

More and more we are all walking down the hi street talking or tapping away on our devices (not advisable) this information won't stop you being mugged but it will help protect your data and possibly restore your valuable device to you.

If iPhone users want to boast, "well our phones are better that's why were being mugged for them" then let them....... at least we might get ours back, they stand NO CHANCE

Android users can also install LOOK OUT APP from the Play store for added tracking chances

Disclaimer- facts as stated in the article and from chat rooms on line.

DELETING PHOTOS

With so many different OS versions and models now, it is impossible to explain how to go about deleting photos from each individual Tab.

Here's two simple steps that should be common to all devices.

Download the App Quickpic from the Play store. This allows you to easily organise and delete individual pictures.
OR
Connect your Tab to your pc, open as a hard drive, open the folder where your photos are stored and whole albums can be deleted easily.

Alternatively.....on some models with motion enabled,
you just swype your hand over the screen from side to side, palm on its side.

Having trouble receiving Email notifications since the 4.1.1 upgrade...... so was member AllofUs

He had lost the sound notification and the red new email received counter.

Here's his solution

1. I went to the Status Bar and the Sync was turned off. (After you pull down the Status Bar, you have to slide all of the icons over to your left to see the Sync option)

2. I turned the Sync on while I was still in the Status Bar

3. I powered down the tab.

4. Gave it a good 30 minutes or so and powered on the tab.

5. I fired off six emails to the tab's email address and they all came thru with the "whistle" and highlighted number on the icon. AND, the Status Bar had the tiny email notification icon too. Pull the Status Bar down and there is the email where you can read it.

I tried to break it down simply for anyone else that comes along that might be green and inexperienced like me.

So maybe turning on the Sync in the Status Bar was the trick and it needed time to reset itself

Restoring your tab to its original or previous OS

The ONLY way to return to a previous OS is by downloading an Official ROM from somewhere like SamMobile ( http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ ) and flashing it back to your device with Odin...

Do NOT undertake this if...
1) You do not wish to invalidate any outstanding warranty
2) You are not sufficiently knowledgeable and comfortable doing this

Extensive research in the ROM Section for your Device here, and elsewhere on the Internet, will be required to gain that necessary knowledge...

USER MANUAL for JB 4.1.1 users and above

Did you know that Samsung has rather cleverly put a direct link to your user manual in Android format on your phone.

Simply go intto Widgets, long press on the Manual icon to save to your home screen and then you can go straight to your manual anytime.
