I got a new Samsung Galaxy Tab from Verizon, and I will be out of the United States for a very long time, I am going to Mexico, so I don't think I will have signal over there and my galaxy tab will keep searching for a mobile signal, and that means that my battery will finish really fast, because it will keep searching and searching and searching. I was wondering how I would be able to disable the search of the signal so I don't run out of battery really fast.

Press and hold the power button...
One of the options is for flight (turns off all communications). Should sort you out. There is a data transfer option on there too which you could disable if you still need the phone.

Verizon does not offer phone on the device. Sucks but that is how it is. Flight mode will disable all comm. as stated. I prefer turning off just the cell service. That way WiFi is still on and GPS will work. Never know when you will find an open Access Point. If you get Rmaps you can cache the maps from Google for the areas you will be visiting and use the GPS to see where you are even without a WiFi connection.

I've tried to turn off the cell service, but not possible, it keeps looking for a signal, here is a summary of a couple of pictures of what I have been doing to try to turn off the signal: http://www.iamunicorn.com/GalaxyTab/

I got that same message the whole time I was in Japan. The software is looking for a signal but the radio is off. If that bothers you use flight mode and then switch WiFi back on if you need it. Remember that GPS will not work even if switched back on manually. You have to turn off flight mode to get it working.
