which rom is better for the Galaxy Tab 7
Posted 19 July 2011 - 07:57 AM (#1)
I am new to roms, I have a Galaxy Tab 7 with 2.2. I would like to know which rom is better for the Galaxy Tab 7
Posted 19 July 2011 - 08:59 AM (#2)
However, Gingerbread (thats ROM 2.3.3) really has nothing extra over 2.2 (code named Froyo - don't ask me WHY!!). Still, if you're the adventurous sort, you might like to give Gingerbread a go. Do be advised to back u all your Contacts, Music, Pics, Videos and Data - you may not find anything on your Tab after the Flash, so you will need to put all these back!

Hi Carlo67,
I would wait for Kies to update my Tab if I am not the adventurous sort and I don't want to null the warranty in case something SNAFUs and I can't flash it back to the original state.
Anyway, GB is being rolled out all over the world, slowly but surely, now. Got mine updated via Kies so it's working fine for my locale.
IF I wanted to try out the European config, I would flash the Italian ROM as detailed in this forum by Bogdi (who did a great job!). So I guess it's a matter of what you want to try as oppposed to which ROM is the best. Different ROMs for different regions comprising of different sub-configurations.
It's just my humble opinion..Cheers!

@ SNambiath
It's called Froyo because Google decided to name all the versions after desserts or dessert ingredients and in alphabetical order..
Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich.. so the next iteration will be something beginning with J...

Seek, and you shall find..
Use the SEARCH, and I'll be kind..

Thanks, Gainn, I still have no idea what a Froyo is (except that its a Dessert/ Dessert ingredient), not having ever tasted it!
But I sure am enlightened now about the Android OS Naming Scheme!

Samsung havent finished rolling out gingerbread yet so an official 3.2 port is unlikely or a while away. Spacemoose is close to an unofficial port but it will likely have a few broken bits to fix before its every day useable. Go to the xda gtab section and watch it unfold . The thread is in the dev section.

The Spacemoose 3.2 on the P1000 as an every day OS is a very, very long way off yet..
Despite some tech bloggers deciding that because 3.2 should be able to run on the P1000 does not mean that samsung will ever release an official version. they have stated in the past that they wouldnt bring HC to the original tab (due to google's licensing restrictions on that OS), and I still find it hard to believe they will bother even if it is possible.
If they do it will be a supreme piece of altruism on their behalf.. What gain is there to be had in making the old hardware as good (or possibly better.. the P1000 is a much more stable and tweakable configuration than the 10.1) as the newer shiny (more expensive) hardware they are trying to flog now, or in the near future.
And dont forget, there are fairly reliable reports that there will be a v2 7" tab (GT-P2000?).. putting HC on the original would destroy many potential sales of that unit if it is ever released..

It's pretty solid. I've had no issues with it so far and it _is_ faster. Plus allows some serious tweaks like over/under clocking over/under volting etc
I'd recommend it.

YEOW! Am downloading the files from the link in your post.
Man, it'll take me a few more days mustering up sufficient courage, to go through with the Flash... Thanks!

Seriously.. you read and follow the instructions and it'll be the easiest flash you've ever done :-)
Recovery is pretty simple as well...
I did brick a work mates once, but even bricking is reversible (though I had a few tense hours figuring that out ;-)
