Hello everyone.

I have the Galaxy Tab from Verizon.

Recently, I have purchased a few movies and was given the portable versions as well. I have done what I normally do, which is to download the movie to my laptop and transfer it to device.

For some reason, when doing so to the Tablet, it keeps giving me the same message over and over which is Sorry but this video cannot be played!!

Can someone please explain to me WHY this is the case?

I've never had this problem on my Droid X ever, and now, it's happening on this device. Part of the appeal of the Tab was to use it not just as tablet but as MEDIA PLAYER as well. I've read that it should play ALL different types of video.

Yes, I have entered in the proper license for the movie which allowed for the transfer of the movie to my laptop in the first place.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

there are some limitations on what the stock video player can play. Just download rockplayer or Vplayer from the market and you should be fine.

Well, unfortunately, when I downloaded those converters from the market they did not work. Everyone else seems to get it to work but me.

I downloaded the digital file using the Portable File option NOT the regular movie option.

Then, when I copied the the file from my desktop to my Galaxy Tab it does not play.

It actually TRIES to play it but it has all these colored bars and it's distorted with no sound.

Really strange.

It also, in the indicator bar, tries to grab the DRM license and says cannot be found but I've obviously entered that in when downloading to desktop.

Frustrating as can be at this point.

I've used other devices, even the crappy Archos Android device and those worked fine. This one just doesn't want to work for some reason.

Any other suggestions are helpful.

I've tried this Aunsoft video converter with no luck.

does anyone have any suggestions to this problem? I kind of feel like I've been robbed here. I tried using other video players suggested but they also did not work. these video files are standard. wmv files that I loaded onto my pc and attempted transfer to my tab. I just will not work and then it also gives me DRM errors as well.

really strange since I've not had these issues in the past with other devices. I have to be doing something wrong. others have had no issues but I do?

If these movies are from Samsung ( Acetrix) then only the Tab version will play on the Tab. ( not any mobile version )

The PC version will play on a PC with Media Player 11 installed, but will not play on the Tab.

I don't think the PC version will play on a Windows 7 PC, which has Media Player 12.....at least it won't for me !

It's all down to DRM

I'm having the same problems. I purchased and downloaded a movie from (Microsoft) Zune Marketplace (.wmv), which gives me both a standard (SD) version and a device version. I transferred the standard version to my Tab, but am not able to play it due to the same issue as the OP stated, getting the license error. No I don't want to pay for another copy of the movie through the Samsung media hub, I shouldn't have to. Will I get the same/similar error if I convert one of my DVD movies?

You might want to check over on XDA Developers for some assistance. Those guys are the bomb for technical information.

Galaxy Tab supported format:
3gp, mp4, avi, wmv, flv, mkv

Galaxy Tab supported codec:
MPEG4, H.263, Sorenson H.263, H.264, VC-1, DivX/Xvid

Now that .wmv is a supported format, the matter could be CODEC. If your WMV file is encoded with earlier WMV2/WMV1 codec instead of VC-1, it is not playable by Galaxy Tab. In that case you can convert the videos to Galaxy Tab supported codecs. Or your WMV file is copy-protected by MC - I haven't found a way cracking the protections, sorry.

more reasons to be a pirate then..
not sure if the pirates use the codecs that will play on the most devices.. or if its actually that the manufacturers install the codecs that the pirates prefer..

probably the second..lol

Any movies downloaded from the samsung movies website are .wmv

On your home computer open your windows media player and sync
then with your tab connected(upper right hand window) drag the movie
to the sync box (again on the right) the movie and the rights should now
download to tab and be ok to use.

Ok after hours of trying to get my legally purchased DRM digital copies to work on my Galaxy Tab (via USB) from Verizon, I finally figured it out. All of the conversion software wasn't working, none of the DRM restoration stuff worked, and talking to Samsung Tech support was a joke! So here's what you need to do to get a legal DRM digital copy to play on your Tab using a USB cable:

1. Go to settings, then Applications, then Development
2. Uncheck USB debugging if it's checked.
3. Back out to Settings then select Wireless and network
4. Select USB Settings, and make sure Media Player is selected
5. Exit out to Home
6. Connect your Tab to your PC using a USB cable
7. With Windows 7 it popped up asking if I wanted to run a program, accept this
8. At this point my Tab took forever to sync, it should show you "connecting" in the notifications bar.
9. After sync completed I was able to drag and drop all of my DRM digital copies to my Tab without problems.

If you need any help, let me know!

"There were those who said it couldn't be done, but he with a smirk replied...'Maybe so but I wont be one, who will say so until he has tried!'"

Now the big question is your tab rooted if not then root your tab and see if you can play those drm movies. Most likely it will fail the drm check but it may not. I was able to stream netflixs on my rooted nexus s but couldn't get the at&t uverse app to pass the drm check. Would be interested to know.

Do you have the 7" or 10.1 tab?
