Hello,

I am trying to update my FW, via KIES, from the existing 2.2 Froyo, to the newer 2.3 Gingerbread.
My GT, is a GT-P1000 model, Build number FROYO.XWJMK.

What I did was:

- Downloaded the KIES SW, from Samsung Website
- Conected my Tab to the PC (using KIES connection mode under USB Settings)

When checking for updates, i get the following message:

"This device's firmware version cannot be updated"

It does the same with my wife's Tab.

What do you think about this ? Is there a solution to this issue ?

Android Version : 2.2 Froyo

Sorry, what did I get there ?

How come locked ??? I bought it from a big electronic store, new and not linked to any type of gsm/internet subscription etc... why should it be locked ?

If it is locked, I am going to bring a sh*t storm on that store =@ I want to be able to install the damn update !

firstly, which version of Kies have you got installed?
if its the newest version (ends in 66_6) then it seems samsung have still not 'unlocked' this version yet for upgrades.. if its the older one, then get the 66_6 version from them, and see if it still says the same.

let us know when you've checked that.

My KIES is just updating right now, as we speek actually, to: 2.0.0.11044_11 - Update 2011-06-23

Strange, so this is the last update, but still it does not end in 66_6... So should I get the "66_6" update ? From where ?

let that one finish and then reconnect your Tab.. if it still wont accept that it can be updated, then go to your local samsung website for the newest version. (2.0.1.11053_66_6)

Thank you for your trouble, but I think it will do no good... The latest version for my country was released today (23.06.2011) and KIES updated to it, still, no Firmware notification.

Anyways, I called Samsung here (I am from Romania) and they told me that the 2.3 Gingerbread for GT, is not yet available in Romania, so I will have to wait a little longer. :( Thing is there is no official date yet... Damn :nea:

I guess i should wait for it so I can update the tab safely, when it releases in Romania, otherwise I may loose the waranty (so the guy at Samsung said)

Thank you all for your input, it's much appreciated.

gingerbread is only available in some places at the moment.. all I'm trying to help with is the fact that it said it cant be updated.
if it still says that, then even when GB is released, you wont be able to get it..

does it still say the same thing?

if it does, then try the version in the link Bart posted. it is the newer version despite what Kies says.

Yes, it says the same thing... That's life, I'll just have to wait for the release in my country.

To find the latest KIES version, you do it on your computer. Load KIES, and goto help > about.
To find the latest FIRMWARE version, you do it from your tablet, Settings > About phone/device > from here, you can see Model Num, Firmware vers, Baseband Vers, Kernel Vers and Build Number.

you cant get kies to recognise it as its not an official update, and as far as Kies is concerned you shouldnt have it anyway.
it might show something different after the official 2.3.3 release in your region, but then again it might not..
other than the fact you wave goodbye to your warranty, this is the biggest problem with flashing leaked or different region firmware.. It depends on how samsung update the version history in the kies db, and if they decide not to add the leaked version, then you'll need to flash back to an earlier firmware for Kies to recognise it..

but there isnt likely to be any more updates (barring a miracle, or an update to 2.3.4 which can be done with a patch anyway) to the tab in the forseeable future (if ever), so basically.. dont worry about it..

Thanks Gainn, your right, every thing on my tab works fine after update so i wont worry, like you said i can always update again if another update comes out. I checked in the mobile phone shop and my warranty is ok as long as i dont root it. :D

Hi Everyone,
I'm a newbie here. As I was looking in this forum, I feel this would really help me solve FW update on my GT-P1000 which was newly acquired last 2weeks ago. My current FW is 2.2 Froyo.DXJK, BASE VERSION-P1000XJJ2, KERNEL VERSION - 2.6.32.9 ROOT@SE-5604#1.
I just updated my KIES version and after the update, the KIES prompt me that there is a latest firmware update for GT-P1000 that required me to install. Then I follow the steps after downloading the files. As soon as the FirmwareUpdate started to install, suddenly a window came out sand it says "FirmwareUpdate has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. And when I click the "Close Program" button, the program did not closed and it continue preparing firmware upgrade but nothing happen after 3hrs. so I close the Kies and firmwareUpgrade. I checked my tab and the version still the same does not Upgraded nothing happen

I tried this 3 times, the message error still came out.

My laptop is Win Vista Ultimate 64bits SP2 2.83GB CPU 4GB RAM 250GB HDD. KIES version 2.0.2.11071_128.
Can someone give me a good advise on what's wrong on this and tell me how to solve this issue?. Is there something wrong with Sammy's KIES software or the FirmwareUpdate program? that I don't know.

I encountered a similar problem with win 7 64 bit. Try to get hold of a win xp or vista 32 bit. That's what I did. An alternative was to use checkfus downloader(please google for link) to get the latest firmware and flash using odin.good luck.

Thanks bme. I also send my concern to Samsung and they replied that I have to wait early next week because they are still fixing the FirmwareUpdate program on why it suddenly stop after downloading the installation file. I asked what is the FW update intended for, they said it is for the new ver. 2.3.3 Gingerbread. I think I have to wait next week and see if they already fix it.
