Is my Galaxy Tab locked?

I bought a Galaxy Tab from O2 yesterday(UK), being assured that it is not locked. I will be taking it back to Australia with me. I put in my Optus sim and rebooted. The Tab wanted a sim unlocking code and will not connect to the network. When in the shop, we tested my sim on the demo model and it worked fine. I am guessing that the demo was unlocked for some reason.

Is there a way to find out if the Tab is locked?
Or is it not registering with my network for some reason?

if its not working then its locked. if you tried a sim card besides the one that came with it then its locked.
