Getting the clockwork recovery on your Tab isn't as simple as downloading ROM Manager from the market. For galaxy tab users, we need a special kernel. Here is how to get it working on your STOCK T-Mobile or Verizon tab. This is for people who know how to use ADB. If you don't feel comfortable doing this then please DONT. Sooner or later there will be a noob proof way of doing this, although this is pretty straight forward. Let's begin!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR T-MOBILE TAB:

1) Download the modified kernel for your device:

T-Mobile:

DOWNLOAD HERE

2) Download this file too:

http://koush.tandtga...est/flash_image

2) Type in each command, making sure to hit enter when you reach the end of the line. Also, make sure that the files you downloaded can be found by ADB.

adb push flash_image /data/local/bin/flash_image
adb push tmobile_zImage /sdcard/
adb shell
su
chmod 755 /data/local/bin/flash_image
/data/local/bin/flash_image boot /sdcard/tmobile_zImage
sync
exit

NEXT:

3) download ROM Manager from the market
4) click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
5) select the T-Mobile Tab option
6) Done!

INSTRUCTIONS FOR VERIZON TAB:

You guys have it a little easier. If you feel like supporting the dev of ROM Manager then head over to the market and download the Verizon Tab Bootstrap. It costs $2 but it easier than having to type in all these codes. If you don't feel like donating then continue on. If you end up downloading the bootstrap then just:

1) download ROM Manager from the market
2) click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
3) select the Verizon Tab option
4) Done!

If you want to do it the manual way, then continue here:

1) Download the modified kernel for your device:

Verizon:

DOWNLOAD HERE

2) Follow these steps:

adb push flash_image /data/local/bin/flash_image
adb push verizon_zImage /sdcard/
adb shell
su
chmod 755 /data/local/bin/flash_image
/data/local/bin/flash_image boot /sdcard/verizon_zImage
sync
exit # This should take you back to your computer's console
adb reboot recovery # Boot into recovery

3) download ROM Manager from the market
4) click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
5) select the Verizon Tab option
6) Done!

If you have questions the post them here. Big props goes to XDA and Koush.

Thanks for this post! I've been looking for something like it.

On another note: Wasn't the bootsrap app getting a bit of a bad rap lately? Bricking Tabs?

Can anyone tell me what rom is best suited for my Tab? It was purchased as an Optus (Australia) locked device. Currently, I've rooted and unlocked it. It's running FROYO.XWJJ4. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I did this (Verizon Tab Recovery Bootstrap) and now my screen will not rotate. Is there a fix?
