I'm using Cool Reader and FBreader both allow importing epub from my computer neither one tries to sell me anything. I own a nook b&w but find the nook program very slow loading and searching on gtab. Kindle... if I wanted Amazon to totally control my importing and reading I'd need my head examined.

Welcome to the Forum Ashley,

There are two main methods:-

1) If you haven't done already download the Kies program from the Samsung site to your PC and install it. Connect your Tab via the USB part of your charging lead to your PC and when your Tab is connected a Phone Icon will appear in the top right corner of the Kies program. Browse for your book files on Kies and drag them to the Phone Icon and they will be copied over to your Tab.

This applies to most other files too ie. music, video etc.

2) Transfer them via a USB microSD card reader to a microSD card that you have previously formatted on your Tab.

It is also possible to transfer them via wifi, but you will need to have a wireless network and your Tab to be shared on the network.......which is a bit more complicated to set up.

Hope this helps......

new to all this & not finding it easy, i have managed to download ebook from WHS but had to download onto home pc could not get into WHS account on GT, the book has been downloaded to Adobe Digital Editions, not sure how to get onto Kies also no icon showing for books in Kies

I use fbreader. I was already familiar with it on my olk Nokia Internet Tab. It is nicely customizable for font size, line spacing, background and text colour. I use black text on a blue background. Easy on the eyes. Not as nice as a Kindle for reading, but nice. Does epub natively. If you need to convert from some other format, try Calibre on your pc or mac.

I haven't tried the kindle app yet, mainly because I use a Kindle 3 for my reading needs (I don't like glowy screens when I read for leisure). I don't think Kindle reads ePub, vut there is a free program called Calibre which can convert eBooks from one format to another. I might try out FBreader if I feel the need to read something other than a PDF on my Tab.

I'm testing a few, for plain text I use either cool reader or alkido, I just got Laputa but i couldn't figure out how to add my own books (I went to their website and now I have to try)

Now for comics or photography books I'm usigng cool reader, alkido works fine, but for some reason if you have a heavy book (lots of pics on it) it takes a long time and sometimes doesn't even load the book.

Currently I'm transfering my books using calibre, It works great.

I had a kindle anyway which my partner snaffled once I got the Tab. So it seemed sensible to use the kindle app. It linked to my account seamlessly and all my books were there so I have not bothered to try any of the other readers.
I used calibre to convert books for the kindle and it works just as well for the tab. I usually convert with Calibre, then drop them in my Dropbox. That way I can grab them remotely when I want them.

I just read a article about apple denying Sony reader app for iPhone and iPad. I guess apple wants to have it where the books have to be bought in the apple store and cannot be shared w/ any other platforms. If they do this there will be some uproar going on. I have kindle on my iPhone and tab and live it I can get to my books on both devices. Apple is getting greedy now.

Please would someone be kind enough to guide me (apparently an idiot)'step by step' through the process for transferring a W H Smith book I purchased to my Galaxy from my PC? Both devices appear to have Adoble Digital editions installed (as per Smith's instructions) and when I click on the Galaxy version I get the loading sign going on interminably and no book appears on My files, Readers' hub or eBook. Rather stupidly I purchased the book from Smith's even though my free voucher evaporated without me getting the expected £25.00 worth of books. Please can someone help!

Hi, just joined the forum today. Can't answer your question I'm afraid. I downloaded several e-books from WH Smith straight to the TAB, no problem, but I can't figure out how to send back-up copies from my TAB to my PC. Any ideas on this?

1.Make a new folder on the tab for your ebooks.
2. Connect the tab to the computer.
3. Open the files on the tab with the explorer on the computer
( in 'computer' you see the tab, open it by double clicking)
Navigate to the empty ebook folder on the tab.
4. Find the ebook file on the computer (epub?)
Copy the epub file from computer to the ebookfolder on the
tab. Now you can disconnect the tab from the computer.
5. Open the ebookreader on the tab.
Open the menu of the reader and choose 'import'.
Navigate to the ebookfolder on the tab.
Check the box of the epub file en click 'ok'.
6. Use the 'back' key to return to the ereader.
Wait untill importing is finished and the book should appear
the shelf of the reader, ready to be read.

Many thanks Floortje - I will have a go at doing it that way.

<Very good advice Simonsays! I still haven't fathomed out how to manage material from W. H. Smiths so I have turned to Amazon and Kindle. As you indicate it works like a dream!_<

I was trying to find a way to ready big work documents easier than reading them in ThinkFree or in massive emails. I found this site that converts many documents formats into ePub (and others) to be read in an eBook. Probably take to long for every little document and not worth it but i have a few hundred pages to read so this will help.

Formatting is good and you can highlight and bookmark sections to go back to when you are done. Depending on the size of your document, it can take time to load but overall, i find it easier then reading in document form.

Input formats: doc, epub, fb2, html, lit, lrf, mobi, odt, pdb, pdf, prc, rtf, txt.
Output formats: epub, fb2, lit, lrf, mobi

Anyone else have ebook tips?

I have been using the built in ebook reader that came with my sgt. Been trying to find info on it but cant find any "about" button. It looks like the ipad one where the books are on the bookshelf. I like it, will try your suggested ebook reader tho. Thanks for the tip.

Hi what is everyone's favorite ereader app? I've got the kindle app but can't figure out how to get my non-amazon books to read on my Tab.

If they're non kindle books you can convert them using the website given above, what format are they in ??? I had all intentions of using mine as an ebook reader but it hurts my eyes for some reason, back to the Sony PRS 505 for me, but was using the inbuilt app plus kindle app.
