Hi everyone,
I read to many threats about flashing Gingerbread and in general on a Galaxy 7inch.
Being new to the forum and proud owner of the Galaxy TAB for 3 days, i applogies for any stubid question i have.

As mentioned, I just got me a Unlocked Brandnew TAB which seems to be NOT affiliated with any Phone company. My Tmobile SIM seems works great on the OEM TAB, but i can get no 3G for data transfer. It's seem to be limited to Edge only.
My device show Baseband P1000NUBJM2, Kernal 2.6.32.9 and Froyo.VF.JM2
Kies shows PDA:JM2/Phone:JM2/CSC:JM1(TTT)
What does this mean: Is CSC the radio? PDA = version on android? Language?

If i stay on FROYO , can i flash a tmobile modem to get 3G work? Where can i find the Tmobile radio? any special instructions to follow?
Or upgrade to Gingerbread and use the Froyo tmobile modem version?

Any help is appreciated.

I'm no expert, but my TMobile supplied Tab connects to 3g fine. It seems to me that 1 of 2 things may be causing your problem.

1. 3G reception is poor where you are.

or (and most probably)

2. The sim you are using is not registered to use 3G.
Did you get 3G OK in whatever phone you took the sim from. If you have a valid data contract with T-Mob then phone them to ask.

Only guessing.

It seems I am hearing conflicting information about whether I can upgrade this model to Gingerbread or not? I want to get the info before I go forward with it to ensure I dont brick my GT.

If you guys could provide a good tutorial link for this it would be great!

I have a Samsung 7” tablet that was purchased from T-Mobile. I have contacted both Samsung and T-Mobile to try to get an updated OS for this device, but can not get anything from either one. Can someone please help! I use this device for my business on a daily basis and any help would be greatly appreciated. The device information is listed below.

Samsung 7” Galaxy Tab
Model: SGH-T849
Firmware: 2.2
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9 May.Park@sep-08 #1
Build Number: FROYO.UVJJB
Carrier: T-Mobile

Can someone let me know the following:
1. What is the most current OS that can be installed on my tablet without bricking it?
2. Where can I find the software and directions to install it?
3. Is there any known issues that need to be addressed after the software is installed.
4. Is there a modem driver that needs to be installed in order for the data package to work?

Thank you for your time and look forward to a reply

This is my first post and I hope this is the appropriate area to post my experience with the Galaxy Tab SGH-T849 T-Mobile USA 3G version. Ever since I purchased the tablet I noticed that the performance was not the same as my Samsung Vibrant phone, which I am told has the same processor. After a year and numerous restores and several trips to the store to complain I decided to risk it all and install the Gingerbread update. I found instructions and stock firmware which is supposed to be used as a prerequisite to installing a custom ROM. The name of the site is theamovercome.net and it was my starting point. I followed the instructions and reread the instructions over and over to understand exactly what steps needed to be taken. I downloaded the necessary utility and files and began my adventure. I only made it halfway through the process as their custom ROM would not load and after a few scary minutes I was able to recover the Gingerbread installation. I must say that not having the T-Mobile bloatware made a HUGE difference in the performance. The tab is lightning fast! What used to take over a minute for the Google search page to load in the browser now takes a few seconds. WiFi performance has improved greatly as well. So far every embedded video has played flawlessly. Even though I was not able to install the custom ROM from that website I am not going to press my luck and will stick with the their stock Gingerbread firmware/ROM for now, at least until I get brave and have hundreds of dollars to burn on a new unit. Feel free to ask questions about my experience with the upgrade.

Hi ConGanasN323

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I know there are several members in here already who have used the "Overcome" Rom successfully, so if you wanted another go I am sure they would be only happy to help you.

I rooted and upgraded my AT and T Galaxy 7 inch tab to 2.3. I also had the same experience. the tablet is much faster. The internet browser is much smoother and faster and behaves like the ipad browser. I think AT and T probably put too much bloatware and slowed it down. Very happy with the software upgrade.

I have a T-Mobile T849 Tab.

It has Android 2.2 installed on it and I was wondering if there were any upgrades to Gingerbread or even Honeycomb available.

I have the exact same equipment and the same question. I am praying that our Tab hasn't been orphaned already: mine is barely a year old for goodness sake!

Hopefully someone will soon post us the solution here soon DDuncan56.

Your post was interesting. I own two TMobile branded 7" tablets. I'd like to upgrade at least one to Gingerbread but I'm really a novice when it comes to things technical. I'd appreciate any assistance anyone has to offer. I'm currently on vacation in Florida but I have one of my tablets with me. I hope this was the correct place to ask for help if not I apologize. :unknw:

Hey Bart thanks for the info which helped me upgrade my TMobile branded tablet from FROYO to GINGERBREAD I also rooted it and was able to use Titanium Pro to restore all of my applications and data. My only problem is since the upgrade my tablet only runs on EDGE no 3G. I contacted TMobile and told them what was happening ( I didn't tell them I had upgraded my firmware). They said it should be corrected within 72 hours, so far it hasn't . The tablet is extremely slow and stalls during most downloads now... PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have a SGH-T849 TMobile tablet which I recently flashed and upgraded the firmware from FROYO to GINGERBREAD. Everything went well except my tablet which used to receive 3g now only receives EDGE. I contacted TMobile and they said the sim is fine. TMobile said if the sim card was corrupted I wouldn't even be getting EDGE. Can anyone help me get my 3g speed back. Using EDGE is terrible and there is constant stalling during normal downloads

you'll probably have to look into flashing a different modem. http://forum.xda-dev....php?t=1069727. u get a trade-off 2g+ability to make phone calls or 3g only and no phone calls. look into tmobile modem switcher http://forum.xda-dev...ad.php?t=871021

My guess why the stock "overcome" android 2.3.3 is so much faster than the "stock" T-Mobile is that it doesn't have all the SPYWARE by "Carrier IQ". On another forum I learned what the Carrier IQ HIDDEN data collection spyware collects, pretty shocking!
