transfer movies

Hi Guys

I have downloaded a few .avi movies to put on my tab.
I transfer them via "kies" to the additional sd card and all goes ok.
when checking the films on the tab , i can see all the films on the card..... but....
all but 1 will play,the one that plays is perfect.the others come up and say wrong format... even though they are ".avi" format.

hope someone can help me

I am not cetain, but I think it is because while the tab is able to read the avi files, it can´t play the files that the avi files contains.

Since avi is a container of audio and video. It is most likely that the tab, can´t play the video and audio files the avi contains.

I think there are AVI's and AVI's, if you get my drift......
It's probably a codecs thing.......didn't I see some sort of converter in Kies ?

Anyways,if there isn't you might like to run the ones that don't work through some video converters on a PC or Mac and see if you can come up with a result that works.

I think trial and error may be your only resort, unless someone can come up with other suggestions.

Hi

had a further play with this prob.
I can load all "avi" movies on each at a time and they play ok , when i put 2 films(a and B) on it only sees film "a" and will only play film "a" .... i can take off and put them on in opposite order ie Film "b" first then film "a"....it only plays film "B"

kies converter gave me a huge mp4 file and was crashing the software.
any more ideas

Try creating two folders for a couple of your AVI's and put one in each.
Reboot for a media scan....then see if you can access both of them then....

I was initially very frustrated with videos on the Tab because I couldn't get any that I installed to play. I believe the Tab is fussy about formats, but with Hamster Video Converter and a lot of trial & error, I discovered that converting to H.264 solved the problem completely. Hamster is free and very intuitive and simple. The only downside is that videos take awhile to convert, but I can queue up a number of them when I go to bed and wake up to find them all nicely converted.

I take it hamster is a pc program not an app,does it ripp dvds to avi as well. . .If not do u know a free software that does, bit skint after xmas dont wanna pay, lol

You can try handbrake or kigo video converter. Both are free and work really well. You might want to try vplayer or rock player. They might play your avi's w/ no problem.

AVI is just the container, and does hardly say about the used codec. The file which isn't playing uses a different codec which isn't supported by your player. As recommended you can use tools to convert to a different codec.

I think you can install some Android transfer software on your PC.
Connect your Android to the PC and transfer videos media files.
Then connect the Android to PC and transfer the files to Android.
I haven't tried ever before so I'm not sure if it works.
