My new Samsung 10.1 ended up 'dead' after overnight charge.

I can not wake it up.

Hi guys

I bought the galaxy tab last week and so far, not great at all.It looks good and everything, and when it works, it's fab but it has some really dodgy things going on. Firstly, the charger is made up of three parts which fit together, haphazardly(btw instruction manual? no). Initially it was charging fine(though it would take about 4 hours to fully charge which is ridiculous!), but now, the thing wont charge at all! Obviously a fault with this dodgy put together thing. I have found a way to charge it by removing the USB connector and plugging that into my playstation, however, I put it on last night before bed and when I got up it was only charged 50%. So now I am faced with having to spend unnecessary time sorting it out. Has anybody got any suggestions/have the same problem?

Other annoying things are that it has no USB port so I cannot put files onto it.
Also, the touchscreen seems a bit dodgy. On both youtube and iplayer, when I want to jump to a new part of what I'm watching, it wont let me drag the timeline thing along. I have also had a screenfreeze while on googlemaps though that could be a oneoff.

Altogether, pretty annoyed!!
Please, is anyone having problems like this??

I got mine in the last week aswell and i can't get the charger to work properly. I have now resorted to charging it via the usb on my pc, but this only work when the tab is completely turned of! I am finding this a pain!! As far a screen freezing goes im getting problems when streaming from catch up sites and the audio doesnt seem to be matching the picture as there is some sort of delay. Games onit are ok but the screen isnt as responsive as i thought/hoped it would be..

I too am loosing patience with this machine!!! I have seen other people moaning about the screen freezing too on other forums!

Hi I am also having this issue aswell. Screen freezes for 5-10 seconds before going back to normal/force closing the app.

Is this an android issue or problem with the tab itself? Thoughts?

Your usbs on ps3 etc are not powerfull enough to charge it. You will get trickle charge only which will take yonks!

I know you shouldnt have to but a mains usb charger isnt expensive.

The screen freezes - cant help too much there but il guess if an update becomes available it will squash the bug.

It's pretty obvious that the only way to address your charging problems is to face up your Supplier and request a new charger.

If this is as common as your reports suggest, then Samsung should be aware of it by now, and you shouldn't have a problem getting it replaced.

It's almost futile to expect to keep your device charged up via your PC's USB port, or similar, because there just isn't enough current available from the USB port to do anything other than trickle charge.

Screen freeze problems mentioned here are nothing more than expected.....if you are streaming anything via YouTube or the like, if you try to move forward the timeline you will get delay or freezing until the software has had time to catchup. Also, other factors come into play too such as 3G/wifi signal strength, broadband speed, latency, and donor site band width/performance.

The other instance, where a program has appeared to have crashed, you will get a period of apparent inactivity (screen freezing) while the program unloads, and memory is given back to the OS.

This behaviour is not restricted to tablets, it is common in both PC laptops and desktops too.

Of course I am going to contact Samsung about the charger...I just think it's a pretty shoddy set up...have you SEEN what is provided?? It's obviously an unstable device. In fact I am attaching a photo of it when dismantled.

Yes, I have tried using other options such as my iphone charger but guess what NOT COMPATIBLE.

Re:Moving forward the timeline...how come I can do it on my iphone and pc with no difficulties? And with the same internet coming in....hmmm....

And the screen froze again this morning on Googlemaps...so maybe this is a regular thing...

NOT HAPPY

NOT HAPPY

That charger is very similar to the one supplied with my Tab 7 inch, and I have had no problem with it, although odd people have reported the USB lead faulty.

If you are streaming video, you can't move the timeline forward without interruption, not on you iPhone or PC...I know because I have both.

At first when I was reading this I was nervous that this tab isn't everything I wanted. And then I realized that on iPad it freezes a lot and lags a lot and it's normal. My Thunderbolt also does it and it doesn't bother me. It's a piece of technology, it won't work flawlessly all the time. As far as the charger goes I'm sure Samsung can identify the problem and then replace the faulty charger if you bring it up.

Any advise welcome.

and Wizz from your experience as a 'super moderator' is this a problem that has been mentioned before?

I had my big problem last week when it got stuck in the boot cycle. However, with that fixed and the TouchWiz update installed I haven't really had any issues at all. The charger has always worked fine and I haven't had any problem with the screen freezing. Hopefully (fingers crossed) it will stay that way.

can anybody confirm that this update may have fixed most of the biggest issues? (screen freezing, etc.) and does this mean that in a few months samsung will have fixed most or all of the current issues with the tab? cause if so then it may be worth getting after all... i mean, did the ipad 1 not have the same issues at first too? (they probably got them fixed before release if it didnt... which samsung should have done...)

Hello Forum peers,

Very strange behaviour... My Tab indicates the charging status but windows does not detect the tab nor its drivers. I have tried several windows PCs from Xp to windows 7 but other than being charged it has not been possible to access it from windows explorer. It also fails to show in the device manager. I tried using the android sdk but it does not detect the device thereby unable to load a rom in case that might help. I reversed the system to its default settings; again no help.

Any ideas on how that could be resolved please?

Many thanks

trevor

Check your Windows Device Manager with the Tab attached, to see if it shows any yellow alerts against any devices.

If it does, delete these and either re-scan, or re-boot to pick up the drivers again to see if this will correct the issue.

Hi Amy
I haven't heard of a fix yet, but I have made a video myself and put it on youtube to see if this is the same problem as others are experiencing. If it is then clearly there is a flaw with the hardware.
