Well, I have read all the threads I could find on charging my Tab 10.1. Very frustrating.

I'm extremely angry to find that I paid over $500 Cdn. for

a) something that needs to charge while being turned off and not used. Why, when I can charge & use, at the same time, my laptop and my phone? You can't tell me that there is that much difference.

First, you can charge and use the Tab at the same time using the ac adaptor. That is just like your lpatop, right? - you plug the laptop into the wal to charge and use it. Well, you plug the Tab into the wall and it is exactly the same.

b) a wall charger that worked just once.

You are entitled to get a new one, since it evidently broke under warranty. Again, if the AC adpator of the lpatop broke, you could not charge it at all. With the tab at least you can as a backup charge it from a USb port on your computer. It is slow because USB ports only deliver 1/2 amp; the AC adpator deivers 2 amps. That means the AC adaptor delivers 4X more power and so it charges 4X faster.

c) that the only way to charge it is to use a USB port in my old laptop (and wait 18 hours).

No, you can charge it using the AC adaptor. So just get it fixed and you can then charge it three ways; better than a laptop.

d) something that I would need to go for a 26 hour drive to use the car charger - riiight! with the price of gas! It takes me 26 hours to drive to Florida from Montreal.... guess I could use all the battery up sitting on the beach to read a book and answer some e-mails and then drive back home to recharge it.

I know you are upset, but now you are being silly.

What's worse is that I purposely chose Samsung, as so far, I've been very happy with my Galaxy Ace phone and thought that they would 'integrate' well together.

Another unhappy customer who will probably be nickled and dimed to death looking for a solution. I purchased a 20$ car charger for the phone and was thrilled to find an extra USB outlet on it WOW! now I will probably buy the Csquid Samsung Galaxy TAB plus microUSB charge & data sync cable for another 20$ because I read in one of the threads that it worked for them.- after that? who knows...

Just looking for suggestions and/or solutions...

Bottom line: fix your AC adaptor and you can do exatly what you want.

Hi all,

In Australia here, I just imported a 10.1 from the states and was hesitant about using the US charger with an Australian 240V adapter.

I went and bought a typical USB wall charger, but it is so slow, if I leave it on all night all I get is a half charge.

Any ideas?

You might be better with the official Samsung Wall Charger, if your existing one is third party...

Well, I did the two hour drive (there and back) and was given a replacement for the AC plug.

Plugged it in last night and this morning - success! A 99% charge which I will consider as being full as I've read others have less success.

Thanks for listening.

For me it takes for sure more than 3 hours to reach 90%.
(device completely switched off)
Which I think is long.
Discharge is quite fast also, with backlight to minimum, but wifi always on.
I wonder if some application don't run in background and use CPU...

I have a Verizon 4g tab and have tried a USB 2amp car charger, an 2amp I go that I also use on my phone and overnight shut off it only charged from 15 up to 65%.

Where are the after market chargers that will handle this load.?

My tab charges about 5% per hour, up to 81% and charges even slower after 85%. Just got off the phone with samsung.ca rep, who said it is normal for the tab to take up to 24 hours to get a full charge. IMHO, if that's true, then this is a crap product! I love my tab, but 5% an hour!?! Come on...

Any opinions or advice??

Hi all

I'm using Galaxy tab 10.1 P7500, it takes 5 to 6 hours to be charged completely and it eats up battery very soon, i always keep my WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS switched off when I'm not using it to save my battery is it normal behavior?

I'm mainly concerned about charging time is it normal to take 5 to 6 hours to be charged completely?

Best Regards
Usman Ali Butt

Hi Usman! I have the PT7510, and my charging time is same as yours, 5 1/2 hrs.
My battery with WiFi on all times lasts about one day, when I use the tab to work (write .doc, read e-book, skydrive, and so on)

With my 7 plus switched off it takes less than 4 hours to charge from 15% - 100%

With it on it is slower of course but no where near your rate or what the rep said.

So the Samsung man is talking rubbish, even allowing for the fact that you have a 10.1.

You have a faulty unit or charger.

Firstly if the PC is no longer seeing the tablet first try uninstalling the driver for it, you can find the driver/info quite easily in the Device manager, then look in the USB controllers section. If the Tab isn't connecting correctly to the PC you will see a yellow ! or ?, click on that and see the driver details. The easy way is to just unplug the Tab and then remove/uninstall the devices driver and then once that is done plug the tab back in and let windows reinstall the devices USB driver.

Normally this fixes the issue and the PC will see your Tab (or mobile device) as a USB hardrive/storage again and now Kies should also work again as well.

As for the charging side of things this means there is not enough voltage supply for the Tab comning from the computers USB port, which is normal far as I can tell. Have you got many other USB things plugged in or tried a different USB port? Maybe a powered USB hub could help but normally the Tab doesn't charge via the computers USB but that said it doesn't consume power from the devices internal battery either. Internal battery use is suspended and power is consumed via the PC USB port.

Some people have trouble with arftermarket chagers and 12v car chargers for the same reason, the Tab needs 5v/800ma and needs at least 1a for operation and charging to occur. Some people will find the device chargers slower with some etc as for optimal charging/operation at the same time the device likes 5v/2a to 2.1a.

Also make certaing USB debugging is unchecked in your Tabs settings, but most the time it's a driver error that people miss and it's a really easy fix. Least it's always fixed any connection issue or Kies issues I've had.

Hi Hoi, just to add my experiences to Mitcon's very excellent help.
When I connect my 7 plus to my pc via the USB, the pc nearly always gives me the message "device not recognised". I don't do anything and literally a few seconds later it connects.Obviously just a minor bug issue.
Your tab will not charge when connected to the pc but be maintained on a weak trickle current to stop it from crashing.
It is advisable to have your tab charged if you are wanting to do any backing up or file transfer on your pc.

This is probably something pretty simple....but so far can't figure it out. I've read the online 10.1 manual. I have problems closing certain apps, most of them in fact will not close. I mean, they will go in the background, but I can never seem to find a button to actually close them....until I log off!

-Thanks

Press and hold on the Home icon at the bottom until the Task manager window pops up. You can choose to end all of the active applications or view the RAM manager. The RAM Manager tab will let you see the amount of RAM in use and free. Clearing the memory may end some of your current applications, so do this with care.

Thank-you, I was also wondering about how to bring up the task manager. I'm going to have to re-read the manual again as I must be missing some of this "basic" stuff. I finally just yesterday figured out how to cut, copy, and paste, ha. Thanks again for the info and help.

Hello,

I just purchased a used Galaxy 10.1 and am trying to charge it. I can charge the tablet when it's off, but when it's on and I plug the USB charger into the wall outlet, a red X appears over the battery icon and it won't charge. It indicates that a USB connection is made, but no charge. Any ideas? Thank you!

This very often happens when an OEM charger is used, or the original equipment, particularly the USB cable, is faulty.

A car charger can also be used, and is quite effective...

This seems to be a common problem. I THINK that it's because the charger needs to have a minimum 2 Amp output and not many chargers do that. It may have something to do with what Samsung calls "fast charge technology".

The iPad has the same behaviour except that the minimumis 1 Amp?

I notice too that there s a message to disconnect power when it reaches full charge, presumably to avoid cooking the battery. Most other devices are OK to leave on "trickle charge".
