Hello,
I had a similar problem at my in-laws' house. Where do you go to check Router Security settings? And, what might be the problem with WPA/WPA 2? We have WEP, and works fine, but in-laws have WPA/WPA 2. Thanks so much for any help given.
if you have the Router "User Manual" it will show in there ( if not, Google "Router Make - Model Number" usually shown on router somewhere, & download a copy)
assuming you use windows, and the router is up and running and in use. type "ipconfig" from the command prompt.
look for the "Default Gateway" usually something like 192.168.1.1 (or a similar IP)
on the PC with Router connected, open browser & in the address bar type the default gateway number ie:- 192.168.1.1 (enter)
you will be asked for a username & password
look for "Wireless Settings" - "Security" there will usually be a drop down box or selection to choose from ......
you can alter the setting to your choice & set your Tab to use the same choice
I suggest trying to set your home router to WPA/WPA2 & your Tab, that way you should be able to connect at home & your in-laws
& WPA/WPA2 is a stronger encryption (more secure)
you can also check "Filter List" to add devices Mac Addresses, to restrict which devices access your wifi
you will also have to set any other device you have that access to your wifi to the WPA/WPA2 security settings
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
in the router Firewall you can also set Mac filtering, access control, url filtering
to restrict devices for "Time allowed to connect" & the web pages you want to block
useful if you have young children
