Hi.
I believe that is a problem with your router. Did you try with another router? I have at home and at work a wifi router and it connects to both very fast.

That's good to hear...
Once you have a working connection your Tab will remember your Belkin and by default will then connect automatically from now on...

I now cannot connect to my home router. We had new carpet put in so everything was shut down and unplugged. I have replugged in and started everything and the ONLY thing that won't connect is the TAB? My satellite radio connects, my laptop, everything but the tab. It keep scanning and telling me that it is obtaining IP adress from linksys, then it will change to REMEMBERED and then it just keep trying to get an IP address.
I never had this issue before. I've done a hard shut down on the tab, the modem, the router, etc--nothign is working.
Any suggestions?

Is there another access point nearby with the same name. It may be trying to connect to that one instead of yours. We have 2 access points in our office on our network segment. When I move to the other part of the floor it should switch to the closest AP but it does not. It seems to remember the first one and will not switch. That is what made me think of another access point causing your problem.

Touch Menu Button
Select "Advanced"
Place a check mark next to "Use Static IP Address"

It keeps saying 'obtaining ip address' but it never does, and never connects to this particular WiFi network any more.
I have reset my Galaxy Tab (Many times) and reconfigured the access point. Am SOMETIMES able to connect to my Wi Fi Network again, but then it will give me the never ending "Obtaining I/P address" message again.
This is happening to a lot of people out there.
This IS NOT a wireless router problem,
( I have already tried everything I can on my router (not that I had to because the Galaxy Tab connects to the network at first but then stops and I have several other devices that use the same wireless network with no problem).
The problem is certainly with Android. Can someone tell me PLEASE what can be done here. I am starting to think I made a terrible choice getting an Android device.
There must be a way to correct this, I am sure this is an operating system bug.
PLEASE advise.
I am in Singapore on Singtel and have posted / reported this to them and they refer me to Samsung!!!!!.........????

Until the pending lemon law is passed, SingTel is right in advising you to send it in to the Samsung Service Center to get it fixed. I recently bricked my Tab and Samsung was friendly enough to help me revive it foc under warranty.

thanks for the reply.
I've also posted on Android Forum and twice with Samsung.
Lots of sympathy and common problems seen on the Android forum but deadly silence from Samasung so far!!!
Apart from this "Glitch" I like the Device.

Just an update, still the problem is there, I can confirm that belkin router is not a problem, I will try the static address method, btw my unit is from Singtel.

I beleive the router is the problem.

"Revs,
Thanks for the advice. Only had a chance to try it today and it worked a treat!
Updated firmware in the router with a reset to factory settings and setting up the wi-fi with a new SSID on a different channel has answered both questions – PC, iPhone and Galaxy Tab now all finding and connecting to wi-fi with security set to wpa2 tkip."
Hope it helps.

I am in the US and when I use my Verizon data package to connect to the Internet when I travel I cannot reconnect to my wifi at home again. I keep getting the message "obtaining IP address" and then it times out and tries again for about 5 times with no results. I called Samsung and the only advice was to do a system reboot. I then spent hours reconfiguring my tablet. I've notice a few other people are having this problem. Someone else was saying to manually input the ip address. I am not sure about how to do this exactly. Any ideas?

it find the router every time but just connects and then disconnects.

1) Set a static IP address on router (assign an IP to your phone/tab mac address e.g. 128.128.1.110 to your Tab mac address)
2) I use Wifi Static (free) from Android Marketplace to set several static addresses as I use several wifi networks so I will describe that one, but you may enter the information below in any ways into the Tab wifi setup
3) Collect necessary info: use your computer / mobile device / router info page via browser to get the following (eg on Windows prompt, type ipconfig /all)
3A) IP address: this is going to be the Tab IP address (set on the router as static)
3B) Gateway: this is your router as gateway, usually your router IP (eg 128.128.1.1 for me)
3C) Netmask: set on the router, usually 255.255.255.0 or similar
3D) DNS1, DNS2: domain name server values, your provider assigns them, router and ipconfig lists these values
3E) WIFI network SSID (name)
3F) Your router MAC address (called BSSID)
4) Start Wifi Static and enter all the information above. When you give all this, at the bottom of the screen you have "APs that use the above info" (Access Points). Tap it, usually it offers the WIFI network SSID (name) immediately, if not type it in. Same with BSSID (this is the router MAC address)
5) Dont forget to save the info (menu: add). quit & go back to wifi android screen
6) Select your (on Galaxy, probably right now says disabled) wifi network. Click to forget, then re-enter the password
7) A transparent box will appear to signify that this connection is going to use the static settings. if this does not appear, you got something wrong
Hope it helps & I also hope that sooner or later this problem is going to be solved for good. If somebody knows a 'one click' solution that solves the entire problem for once and all, I would be interested.
