Hi all. :)

I've searched around the forum for instructions on how to flash my gTab because I want to use the latest Cyanogen mod to it. Problem is, I only found instructions regarding a gTab guide for the European and U.S. market. I bought my gTab in the Philippines, and I want to make a backup for my data via nandroid (clockwork mod). Does anyone know how I can make it work?

Moreover, my device seem to have problem connecting to Samsung Kies. I've already installed the Samsung ADB, yet it still can't be detected. :s

Thanks for the help!

I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS NOT WORKING!!! OR ANY DAMAGE IT MAY DO TO YOUR TAB!!

Hi Pendevous,

Here is the thread w/ CM7. It is still in beta but works pretty good. The dev is still working to fix some stuff.

Boot into stock recovery and make a nandroid backup of your system by holding power and volume up button. once you see the samsung logo let go of the power button and keep holding the volume up button until you boot into recovery. make your nandroid backup in case something goes wrong.

Requirements: GSM (Euro, US ATT/TMO tabs, with JJ4 or other unprotected bootloaders that can run Euro ROMs and P1_add_hidden partitioning.
Modem versions:
ATT: use I9000UGJK3 modem (this is what I am using)
TMO: any modem that works for you with JK5 ROM.
Euro: try JK5 modem

Here is how you will flash this rom.

First, read the readme.txt in the zip file.

Read this thread about locked bootloaders to make sure you don't have a locked bootloader.

Now to flashing the rom.

You will need to use Heimdall to flash CM7 for the tab.

http://www.glassechi...ducts/heimdall/ <--------click on the binaries link for 1.1.1
install instruction are below.

Heimdall install instructions

1. Download Heimdall here http://www.glassechi...ducts/heimdall/
2. Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) and install it. http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en <------only if you are using Microsoft widows
2. Unzip Heimdall and you should have several files in the folder called Heimdall.exe, Heimdall-Frontend.exe, QtCore4.dll, QtGui4.dll, Readme.txt and drivers folder containing zadig.exe
3. Put you tab into Download mode(while the tab is OFF hold Volume Down + Power Button). Hook the tab up to you PC and Run Zadig.exe to install the drivers.
4. From the menu chose Options -> List All Devices.
5. From the USB Device list chose "Samsung USB Composite DEvice".
6. Press "Install Driver", click "Yes" to the prompt and if you receive
a message about being unable to verify the publisher of the driver
click "Install this driver software anyway".

7. Done. This only needs to be done once.

flash ClockWorkMod first
1. Download this kernel and flash via heimdall. you need to download MCR kernel.

Flashing using Heimdall

Unzip the file you just downloaded. It will have have the folders files. open the folder named kernel. you only need to use the zimage file in that folder. Open Heimdall-Frontend.exe and browse to where you unzipped the zimage to and select it. Make sure the box infront of zimage is checked. Hit start and it should flash the zimage and reboot the tab.
When it reboots power off the tab and then boot into recovery (cwm) power button plus volume up button it will start backing up to do the ext4 conversion.
Once the conversion is done you will need to Wipe your Tab (data, dbdata, cache). this is done in Clockworkmod. use the volume keys to navigate and the power button to select. Goto backup and make a nandroid backup after this is done.

When you are done wiping your tab power down and the put the tab in download mode by holding power plus the volume down button.

Unzip the CM7 file you just downloaded. It will have have the 6 files in the folder. you only need to use the zimage, factoryfs.ext4, dbdata.ext4 and cache.ext4 files in that folder. Open Heimdall-Frontend.exe and browse to where you unzipped the zimage, factoryfs.ext4, dbdata.ext4 and cache.ext4 files to and put them in the correct box. zimage will go in the kernel box. Make sure the box infront of zimage, factoryfs, dbdata and cache files is checked. Hit start and it should flash the zimage , factoryfs.ext4, dbdata.ext4 and cache.ext4 files and then reboot the tab.

Good luck w/ this.

Hi jkurl15. Thank you very much for the very detailed instruction.

I already downloaded all of the programs you told me. Moreover, I have also installed the ADB Composite Device, as well as successfully rooted my device using the one-click solution (x4root failed).

Before I do some flashing, I just want to provide you these information from my tab:

1. Host: root@SE-S604 #3
2. Version incremental: DXKM3
3. Baseband Version: P1000DXKM1

I am also located in the Philippines.

Thank you very much. I just hope that it works now.

Btw, for some odd reason, when I started Samsung Kies, my device failed to connect with it. :(

Okay, it seems that Nandroid isn't working as I desired, as it seems that it can't find the version of the GTab I'm using (I'm guessing AT&T, but since I bought it in the Philippines, I don't want to speculate). I will try to update my firmware. Maybe it has something to do with this.

So on to plan B: I just opted for Titanium Backup to back all of my data and applications up. However, after doing this, I noticed that the apps that I installed from the market before does not anymore show in the, "My Apps" category in the market (though they are still working fine on my device). Is this natural?

I am sorry for the horde of questions I have because I am new to the Android community. :(

Have you flashed the CM7 rom yet? if so that is normal in the beginning. If you haven't flashed anything I am not sure why it is not showing them.

Try this

go to setting/application/manage applications/all

scroll down to market and select it
1. Clear Cache
2. Force stop

hit the back arrow and scroll up to google framework services and select it
1. Select clear data
2. Force stop

Reboot that tab and see if the apps are back. Good call on the titanium backup.

you could try download in rom manager and flashing Clockworkmod that way. When you select flash scroll down to the galaxy tab and I would use the t-mobile version.

If CWM flashing works you will be able to preform a nandroid that way.

I do like it already. I haven't found any bugs as of now, even if it's only the RC4 version. I still can't get my KIES to work, though.

Anyway, thanks for all of the help. This thread can be closed if it's needed to. :)

Okay, I've read threads like these. The problem is that the ones I've read involves removing the batteries of the phones. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy Tab, it'll be such a hustle to remove the battery. So...

1. Is there anyway to flash it back without removing the battery?
2. I have Heimdall. Can I use it instead of Odin?
3. Can I still install a Cyanogen mod instead, or should it be the MoDaCo? I'm downloading Rotohammer's JME at the moment. Can it still save me?

Btw, I can still go to. "POWER RESET or UNKNOWN UPLOAD MODE" but I don't know where to go from there, even if my device can't go into download mode?

Thank you.

Edit: Btw, I was able to perform a titanium backup before all of this happened, but NOT a nandroid... The thing is, this happened while I was flashing CWM...

you can use heimdall to flash. I think CWM won't work w/ CM7. JME should save you or you can try JMI from rotohammer. The overcome rom and kernel will work and get you back up as well.

Miraculously, it worked. I didn't add the movinand.mst though. Hopefully it's not really important. Thanks :)

No it is not. I saw a post from rotohammer saying it wasn't important.

I would stick w/ roto's jmi or the overcome rom/kernel.
