I wanted a SGT so i bought one, didn't even look at the java bit as it wasn't a deal breaker for me, why buy a ferrari when your going off road, i think you should of done your homework a bit more before buying the SGT to ensure it suited your needs. Hope you get a good price for it. :drinks:

Xmas

The sgt isn't a bad device just because you did not do your research. That makes you a bad researcher.

I dont need java, so it's better for me then what an ipad would be.

There are so many devices our there now anyone can get what they need. So before you start slamming the sgt that does not fit your needs, think of how silly you may look for buying one in the first place. Hope your next device fits you better and you get a good price for the sgt.

Why should we, your selling it anyway?

Took me seconds to find this. If you try researching harder (obviously not your strong point) you may find your answer.

On a side note to help you, people in forums are normally here to help when you ask and need it. But when you go on a galaxy tab forum and hide a question amongst a complaint, you have to expect some lip back. Just ask next time, your experience will be better.

Hi all

There seems to be a few posts about Java and the SGT so I thought I would put in some research hours and see what I can find. It has been hard to find anything which suggests it may not be possible to install Java applications right now.

Some websites have just announced that Android has taken over iOS as the most use mobile operating system (in phones and tabs, not surprise really). So I hope that with its growing popularity, a developer or even better Samsung and Android (Google) makers will incorporate this in the future as an update or in newer OS. Since Sun Microsystems seems to want to make a bit of $$ everywhere, there may be some negotiation needed from Samsung and Google to allow this. This is likely the reason we don’t have it now as I am sure Samsung did not include it just to piss us off.

I suggest searching for an android version of what you need IF it is available.
On a side note, the native browser and some third party browsers do have java for web sites. Go to your native browser and go into Settings and make sure there is a tick beside Java Script. This by default is ticked though.

Sorry its not better news, I would love to be proven wrong. Anyone who knows more please add ot this post and if there are any developers keen to give this a try, please do.

As a gentle reminder, Java and Javascript are different, clicking on Javascript for the default browser isn't likely a solution.
As far as a reason to not include Java, I'll bet it was more about negotiating a license...ie, money.

I didn't know I had to ask the question.
I kinda figured not allowing Java would be as stupid (moreso actually) as the competition not supporting Flash. Is it Google's decision? Samsung's? I'm sure they had their strategy.
Let's keep asking and shopping until we get what we want.

True. I saw a Java app on my sisters HTC wildfire but could not find the same app for my galaxy s and Galaxy tab.
