PREPARATION STEP! download sgs kernel flasher from the market (must be rooted I believe) and do a kernel backup as this process changes your kernel.

SPRINT TAB INSTRUCTIONS THAT WORKEDFOR MANY SPRINT TAB OWNERS. IT MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU!

Ok here it is, Thank koushs for this product, cruiserbax for his awesome instructions and Benjamin Dobell for giving up Heimdall flashing utility and install instructions.

I NOR THE ANYONE LIST ABOVE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS NOT WORKING!!! OR ANY DAMAGE IT MAY DO TO YOUR TAB!!

To get the zip file containing the zimage download it from here. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SV6IKL1D
To flash the zimage you will need to use Heimdall which can be downloaded here. http://www.glassechi...ducts/heimdall/ <--------click on the binaries link for 1.1.1
instruction are below.

Heimdall install instructions

1. Download Heimdall here http://www.glassechi...ducts/heimdall/
2. Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) and install it. http://www.microsoft...&displaylang=en <------only if you are using Microsoft widows
2. Unzip Heimdall and you should have several files in the folder called Heimdall.exe, Heimdall-Frontend.exe, QtCore4.dll, QtGui4.dll, Readme.txt and drivers folder containing zadig.exe
3. Put you tab into Download mode(while the tab is OFF hold Volume Down + Power Button). Hook the tab up to you PC and Run Zadig.exe to install the drivers.
4. From the menu chose Options -> List All Devices.
5. From the USB Device list chose "Samsung USB Composite DEvice".
6. Press "Install Driver", click "Yes" to the prompt and if you receive
a message about being unable to verify the publisher of the driver
click "Install this driver software anyway".

7. Done. This only needs to be done once.

ClockWorkMod Install Instructions
1. First root you tab (use one click root or z4root) then downloaded rom manager.

2. Unzip the flash_image_VZW_zimage.zip. It will have have two files flash_image and zimage. you only need to use the zimage file. Open Heimdall-Frontend.exe and browse to where you unzipped the zimage to and select it. Make sure the box infront of zimage is checked. Hit start and it should flash the zimage and reboot the tab.
when it reboots it will get stuck at the samsung screen long hold the power button to shut it off. boot into recovery (cwm) power button plus volume up button it will start backing up to do the fs conversion but it will fail at /data and /cache. it will leave you in recovery.

3. While still in recovery select factory reset/data wipe when finished also do a cache wipe.

4. select reboot system, if you let it try to boot it will loop/hang on the SAMSUNG logo, this is not an issue just hold power key until it powers off.

5. while off hold volume up + power until you see the SAMSUNG logo then release both keys! NOTE: if step 4 does not fully power off and reboots just keep holding the power button until the screen blanks again then let go and quickly hold down only volume up + power until you see the SAMSUNG logo.

6. once it boots back into recovery (cwm) it will start the same backup/conversion process again, this time it will finish and leave you in recovery.

7. select reboot system and wait for it to load the tab back to froyo. (it will be back to factory defaults with the activation screen again)

8. Your tab will still be rooted so install terminal emulator and run "mount" to verify that your partitions are ext4.

9. Power off then boot back into recovery with volume up + power, it will boot back into recovery (cwm)

10. Do a backup and reboot your tab.

My Device failed at this step:

Instead above the status bar by the Start Button it says Failed after a few seconds.

sometimes it takes a couple of times for the flash to go through. Not for sure why but it does. these steps do work. try flashing it again if it fails the first time flash again. it might take 2-3 times before the zimage works.

Does Samsung Kies need to be installed prior to this?

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to say thanks for the tutorial. It worked perfectly for me.
Woot tab.

I also did this successfully, Woot tab.

Just a side note, after doing this, when mounting your tab, it will mount (to Windows Vista 32-bit at least) as a CD drive and won't let you copy to/from the drive. (MS-DOS error of some sort.) To get around this, I installed Samba Filesharing from the market which mounts your tab as a network drive.

-- EDIT --

I noticed after installing this that the accelerometer is no longer working. Anybody else have this problem?

You need to adb push the sensor.default.so file. I will send you a download link and give you instructions on how to get it back.

The steps were easy enough and I thought everything went ok except that after rebooting into Froyo I am unable to install any apps. It says I don't have enough space. When I check the amount of internal data space I have it says "0". Any ideas on what I did wrong?

If you followed the steps it shouldn't have done that. Try booting into cwm and clear cache and davlik cache. That might clear it up. If you do a factory reset/data wipe that might help as well. Only do a factory reset if clearing the other two don't work.

To boot into recovery turn the tab off and then hold power plus volume up at the same time. Only hold power button for 4-5 seconds. Continue to hold volume up until cwm comes up.

Davlik cache is under advanced menu I believe.

Everytime I boot into recovery the tab starts the whole backup/restore process all over again. At the very beginning of the whole process it says "failed to mount /data" and "failed to mount /cache". The tab also keeps making back ups named "before-ext4-convert...". I think I should probably do the whole thing over again. What is the best way to restore to stock in your opinion?

You will have to flash back to stock. If you go to xda forum. There is a stock dj30 firmware there. That would be your best bet.

I am not for sure if the cwm will work w/ EB28 or not. Let me know if it works or not.

It definitely did NOT work. I went through all the steps very carefully. Rooted the tab, installed the usb drivers, installed the drivers for Heimdall, and loaded the new kernel from the Clockwork mod. Do you think I should try the whole process before updating the firmware to eb28? I'm gonna wait to here from you and in the meantime keep the firmware at ea24. Thanks for your help, I appreciate it

If you are able to do it on EA24 the ota EB28 might fail as some of the files might be modified. Give it a shot and see if it will work and then pass the ota.

You could upgrade to EB28 and then install boushh khasmek kernel for sprint which has custom recovery like cwm and might even be a oc kernel. It is located at xda forum.
