I was looking on the Samsung site at the HDMI adapter. It lists as being compatible with many Samsung tablets (including the 7.0 plus) but specifically indicates that it will not work with the Tab 2 7.0.

Is there a different adapter that allows me to connect the tablet to a tv for video playback?

Thanks

The Tab 2 7.0 does not support HDMI out period.... sorry

You can output video on the Tab 2 7.0 to a TV, provided the TV is a DLNA compatible "smart" TV via Wifi/Allshare

Thanks. I am planning to force the store I bought to take it back. They still advertise HDMI out as a feature on their website.

Just curious; where does Samsung advertise HDMI out functionality on their site? I just took a quick look through their features and couldn't find any mention of HDMI, but they do have the prerequisite "features subject to change without notice" disclaimer...

They have taken the feature off their site. The irony is, Best Buy and Future Shop both still list it as a feature.

The person posting the info to the site probably did a copy-n-paste of an older gen tab and forgot to edit out the details that didn't apply...

I also was mislead. Saw that GT P-3113 didn't have HDMI port but found a dock specifically for GT P-3113 that had HDMI out port. So I went ahead and bought both. My fault of course, didn't do enough research. Since only wanted a tablet for HDMI out I had to buy another Tablet for this purpose. Never to old to learn.

Quite possibly. However, the Samsung site had similar information at one point. When I first bought the Tab 2 they advertised it as a feature. I actually don't blame the retailer. They post the info given to them by Samsung.

Regardless, what they have up currently is false advertising and a great reason for me to get a refund. Unfortunately there aren't many other choices in a 7" Android tablet that do HDMI out. There is the Acer Iconia A110, the Toshiba AT270 (which I owned for awhile, amazing tablet but out of my mother's price range) or the US tablets, the Nook HD and Kindle Fire HD (neither of which I can get in Canada).

The Acer 110 has gotten mixed reviews. Basically the same feature set as the Tab 2 (although it has an onboard Micro HDMI port), same screen resolution as the Tab 2 but also comes with a Tegra 3 processor. My only beef is that there seems to be mixed reviews regarding it's battery life.

The second Tablet I bought for HDMI out was Toshiba Thrive. Not in production anymore, you might be able to get one cheaper. Just plug it in to Samsung TV and watch. I do have to convert flv files to .264 MP4.

If someone has videos or pictures on their tablet, an HDMI connection will allow you to view and hear those files on a larger screen for everyone to enjoy. Or, in situations where you are staying overnight at a hotel that has an HDMI-capable TV, you can watch movies stored on your tab. HDMI may also let you play games on a larger screen.

Netflix? My mother would like to connect the tablet to her tv to watch video. The tablet is a great way to do it. I can easily hook my Toshiba AT270 or IPad Mini to tv's to similar effect.

I have the cheapest Roku box, does a great job for Netflix to TV. HDMI or RCA works.

I know there are plenty of cheap media boxes I could get her. The point is that I purchased her a tablet for this purchase.
