Wouldn't you be able to use a "converter" plug for the country or countries you will be visiting? That is what I plan to do when I visit Israel early next year. I purchased a set of converter plugs, including a surge protector, through a travel store when I went on a tour three years ago and used it with my Palm Treo and it worked just fine.

You have to use the Tab plug. The Tab requires an output of 2amps and most all of the regular USB chargers only put out .5amp to .75amp.

I have a question to pose to all of you GT users: How many of you use the car charger? I was leary of buying the car charger as I've been ingrained with the rule that frequent charging via a car outlet drastically reduces the battery life and charge capacity. With my phones I've placed less thought into car charging as it's not big deal to swap out/ upgrade a battery but I question the GT's internal battery.

Thoughts? Am I being paranoid?

Possibly not

But you don't have to have it connected all the while......just use it like you do any other type of charger.......

It's basically there for convenience when out in the car when you run low on battery and can't charge it any other way.

That said.....Some Car Apps like SatNav are a bit heavy on battery use, so keeping it connected will at least slow the battery drain down a bit when these Apps are being used. :)

If your a "Roadie" I suggest you use Car Dock V3, if you are not already doing so........much better than the core car interface, and ideal for simple, easy control of your Apps when driving :D

Try it, and if you need help with it.....give me a shout :good:

Thanks for the offer Wizz.

I've not thought about a car dock. I see the V3 app in the market- do I purchase a special "docking station" for my Tab that plugs into my outlet? Does the dock also recharge?

First Off.....you don't need a "docking station" to make Car Dock V3 work, although if you have one, as soon as you put your Tab into it, Car Dock V3 will load automatically, instead of the stock car frontend......which is very basic.

I use the Samsung Car Dock that I bought from the USA.....they are not expected until sometime this month in the UK. It's expensive, but it's the best, and it has a charger car included.

So you should be able to pick one up at a good price in the USA.

hi all,

i also got my GT last week. I noted that it does not charge (at least fast) from the PC USB port.

Another think i noted, is that, it does not charge, when is on. I have to shut down by GT, then connect it to the the wall power to get the only indication that is charging.

That's normal....
USB Charging is slower than mains charging because it's a lower power interface.. 5V only

It does charge when it's on, but again, slower than if the device is shut down, because when the device is on, it is consuming some of that power that would otherwise be charging the device.

So ALL charge but

USB Slowest
Mains with device on Fast
Mains with device off Fastest

Hello can anyone help me with this problem? My tablet is all of a sudden not charging properly. I had it docked on a charger/stand and it ran out of juice down to about 10% in an unusually short time, so I tried charging it directly from USB to the computer - still no joy - an hour later I tried with a different cable and different USB / computer, still no joy, so then I tried with that cable plugging it into the mains - and it doesn't seem to be responding. Does this mean my beloved tablet is dead? I bought it second hand and have no warranty etc. I think the battery icon shows its charging - I cant remember how it is supposed to look but it does have that lightning sign in it. However the battery is not charging nevertheless. V upset

I have a Samsung Galaxy GT-1010.

I really don't like having only one USB cable to connect to it, so I have been looking for a third party:

  • An additional USB data/power cable Galaxy Tab that works for my GT-1010

  • Another plugin device, that has that conventional USB input, like the one that comes with the Tab

  • I have seen so many bad reviews of third party cables that are supposed to work with my GT-1010, but don't.

  • Why third party ? Because usually they tend to be less expensive an sometimes have some value add
features over the original Samsung equipment

Any recommendations ??

Thanks,

Jon

Hi,
I have a US galaxy tab (bought from Verizon). Do I need a voltage converter to charge it when I travel to UK, or just a plug adapter?
Thanks.

my UK chargers all have '100-240v' on them, so I would imagine so.. you'll have to have a look at the info on the side to see if your one does as well.

I too would like an extra cable and I would gladly pay for the Samsung version. However, I wish Samsung would make a cable that's more than 2 feet long. My cable is BARELY long enough to get from my bedside table to the outlet. Anyone have a suggestion for a good charging cable between 3 and 6 feet long?

Hello Gentlemen,

I purchased Galaxy Tab P-1000 one month back from China. Last Monday its battery got fully discharged. i had no charger available at that time so I put it on charging on Tuesday evening. After full night charging I noticed its battery is not charging. I have checked charger is working fine after using it on another Tab.

Now my Tab is in Dead Condition. Service Center also gave it fast charging but failed. Their opinion is it is hardware problem. But, its amazing how is is possible that hardware is malfunctioning.

May I know if anybody else faced the same problem and any solution.

Regards

Ravinder
