10 Things I wish I knew at the beginning

1.) The Tab market place has country restrictions just like Istore
2.) Samsung Apps also has country restrictions
3.) Rooting is not evil and once done in seconds can be forgotten about
4.) The stock email has restrictions on editing forwarded or reply text and attachment size
5.) Gallery zoom function is poor
6.) Kies is a good way to transfer contacts and calendars (once it’s connected)
7.) Thunderstorms is one of the best free live wall papers
8.) Stock keyboard is not very nice
9.) There is no stock backup and restore program
10.) Widgets are great but use them wisely

So if you bought a GT in a restricted country and don’t have marketplace there’s an easy solution by changing your CSC (country code)

By typing *#272*IMEI# in your phone dialler a menu will appear to select different codes you may not have them all or the more popular ones like Europe or US but a little try and error one of them should work and Market place will appear (remember this resets your device each time so have everything backed up) You can also search the web for the vending_2.2.6.apk and try loading it manually.

If you still can’t get market place then you will need to go to somewhere like the XDA deleopers site and read up on copying and installing CSC files.

If you are desperate to look at all the free Samsung apps (30+) then you need to do a few tricks that do not involve resetting your GT then try this:

Root your device using z4root app, download androotfile app and astro filemanager

After rooting (takes seconds) and downloaded/followed the instructions go to /system/csc/sales_code.dat using astro and copy file to somewhere safe

Go back to same file using androotfile and change permissions to read/write

go back to /system/csc/sales_code.dat using astro again and press and hold to edit file using notepad, change the 3 digit code to XEU, save and reboot by holding power button. Restart Samsung Apps and you will get 28 apps

If you can’t find google maps, skype, paid apps or often get can find in store your markeplace is restricted. If you have rooted using z4root you can then install MarketEnabler that will simulate several countries so you should be able to get any app including paid ones if you have setup your googlecheckout already, I did not have to reboot for it to start working BTW. Note if your GT market is restricted it's likely the web based one will also be restricted.

K9 mail program gets around some of the limitations of the bundled email client but it’s not as pretty but has many options and if you use the colours and check boxes it looks ok IMO

As you have rooted using z4root you can install Titaniumbackup and schedule backups of all data and apps, ready for next system update

There is a gingerbread keyboard that is available to download and works much nicer than the standard one

There is a full picture viewer that allows full zooming called Imageviewer and is worth a try

And don’t forget to try the Thunderstorms free live wall paper :)

In the settings menu for each accounts I assigned a colour, I also assigned 2 line display, always show images and auto expand inbox.

I think the sub folders options are here which may help with your hotmail account

In the general settings enable the back goes up one level, return to message after deletion and zoom controls

This way it looks a bit nicer and the unified view differentiates between accounts etc and you can navigate back and forth easier

I think the stock email has a 5MB file attachment limitation K9 not sure but I sent a 6MB file no problem

No problem most of the tips are available already but scattered around with conflicting data you have to read around all of them to get the wayforward just though it was nice to consolidate the findings

Got to find a screen capture that works in an App as the back button/power screen capture does not work in all apps even if you go up a level first
