:hi: :hi: Hello everyone, first; sorry about my english....(my mother language is Spanish) :hi: :hi:

I have a lovely, :yahoo: Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 ICS 4.0.3 (GT-P3113) [Not Root] and it has a Firmware PDA:LD3 / CSC:LD3(XAR), connecting to Kies It show me a "new Firmware Update",

Old Firmware : PDA:LD3 / CSC:LD3(XAR)
New Firmware : PDA:LH2 / CSC:LH2(XAR)

its my very first android device and i am a little scary to do something wrong. My question: if I move from PDA:LD3 to PDA:LH2, what kind of improvements that would get???? Must I to do it?????? and What I must to know before to do the update!

PS: Can I use the Galaxy Note S-pen on my GT2 7", I love to draw (amateur) and to draw with my finger is very hard (I mean Imposible :db: )

Thank you, ;)

You don't have to do anything you don't want......but updates usually make the OS better by fixing bugs etc.
Only Samsung knows what changes they have made, and they rarely tell us....

Can't answer your Note pen query ...... but if I wanted to check, I would find a Retailer with the Note in stock and take my Tab in and try it....

Firmware updates are like computer BIOS updates; they may add functions and/or fix some issues, but if things are working fine, why bother? There is always an off chance that the update process could fail. It's really too bad these updates didn't come with release notes so that people could decide if the update is worth it to them.

My tablet is more of a "toy", so I don't mind a whole lot if something goes awry as it's not a "mission critical" device. But some people use them on the road or for business, and downtime can be costly. I guess it just depends on the individual.

The last time I updated my firmware, it went fine. It is a ~30 minute process, so make sure you have the time to let it finish and make sure it has a decent charge before you begin.

The operative word here is usually. This is why I read all the release notes -- when available -- before applying any updates. Samsung does not provide them.

A recent update cycle bit me and some others in this forum. When we upgraded from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 (and, at least for me, a second 4.0.4), the P3113 tablet died and mine had to be sent in to the service center to be resuscitated.

I have no idea what this latest firmware and software update adds/changes/fixes and I really would like to know before doing the update.

I agree with you, Brian. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

On the other hand, if I could see the release notes for this latest firmware/software update, I might feel that the benefits outweigh the risks.

As you know, and as I mentioned in my reply to Wizz, the last round of updates bricked my tablet and I had to send it in for repair.

Kies also lets me know there is new firmware but with no release notes & no problems that need fixing I see no reason to upgrade. =@

After I updated Kies today, I got the notification that there was a new firmware update ("LH2" - currently on "LG5"). Being a little hesitant about the update and if it was worth the bother, I attempted to chat with Samsung asking what the release contained. As expected, they were no help. The guy tried, but he just didn't seem to get it, and ended up saying that level of information wasn't available. Which is bull really since just about every other company on the planet provides some level of documentation as to what is being changed when new updates are released. But whatever I guess.

So, I decided to give the update a try.

The first time I tried to update the firmware, it failed. The firmware downloaded, installed to the tablet (according to Kies), but then the tablet was stuck on "Downloading..." and Kies eventually said there was a connection issue. I let it sit for an extra 20 minutes or so (on top of the ~20 minutes so far) for good measure and since nothing was changing, I shut the tablet off and turned it back on. It booted fine, but was still on "LG5".

Being a glutton for punishment, I decided to try it again, but this time I removed my SD card (meant to do that the first time but forgot), and the update was a success. I'm now on firmware "LH2". I'm not sure if the SD card thing was what caused the failure the first time or if it was just coincidence, but it worked.

Nothing has changed as far as I can tell. I never had any problems before, but everything seems to act the same as it did before. Android is still on 4.0.4, so nothing new there. It still would be really nice to have release notes or some kind of documentation; finding out what changed by blindly poking around is not very efficient.

In addition to the notifications for the Kies software update (which I have installed) and the firmware update from LG5 to LH2 (which I have not installed), I have been bugged every few hours since Tuesday morning to upgrade my tablet software. Have you (or anyone else) installed the latest (on or after September 4, 2012) Android update yet? If so, does it still say "4.0.4"? Have there been any problems?

AGREED!

Is anyone from Samsung reading this thread? Probably not :(

I haven't gotten any notifications to update android itself since I installed 4.0.4 shortly after I got the tablet. And no problems for me so far (knock on wood).

I still have yet to see any actual improvement in anything with the update to LH2, so I would probably not bother unless there is some issue you are having that may possibly be solved with the update.

It's a toss-up. Like was said, no one but Samsung knows exactly what is in the update, so your guess is as good as anyone's if it will have any effect at all with your issues.

However, I see you are using LG2 firmware and before this new LH2 version, there was also a LG5 update. So you really have two updates to choose from. It is possible that one of them may help, but again, it's a shot in the dark without any documentation.

OK...I took the plunge and installed the firmware update. It took a total of about 45 minutes.

When it completed, I checked to make sure that charging worked both while powered on and off. Everything was as it should be.

Then I decided to be extravagant and allow the tablet software update to install. When I did so, I got a message to the effect -- Firmware update failed, check .... Why I didn't do a screen grab (as I did through this whole process) I can't say. In any case, I know the earlier firmware update did work, so I am guessing that the periodic nags about updating the software were, in fact, concerning the firmware. I've never needed to do a firmware update before (but have done two Android updates) and didn't think that the software update check would look at both Android and firmware. I could easily be wrong here.

Regardless, I am now up-to-date firmware-wise and am no longer getting the nag screens about updating the software. So...

All's well that ends well. 8)

2- ¿What I must to do?

Fully charge your tablet. Make sure that Kies has been updated (if not already). Begin the firmware update process and wait. Mine took about 45 minutes from start to finish. A large part of that time was waiting for Kies to download the firmware file and uncompress it. Another was at end of the update while Android "optimized" my applications.

Do not run anything on your PC while this process is happening. Do not touch your tablet while this process is happening. Follow the on-screen instructions from Kies.

I cannot say whether updating the firmware will correct the sluggishness problem that you have seen but good luck!

Hi guys
I received the update notification a couple of weeks ago to update my tab 2 7. I noticed on the update screen that AllShare Play was mentioned as part of the update and sure enough this app was installed following the reboot. However I now have erratic kinetic scrolling in the default browser and I cannot get it to behave properly. I have performed 2 factory resets to no available and the tab was even sent back to Samsung via my retailer but was returned as no fault was found!
Anyone else having this issue?
