Galaxy tab screen orientation Not able to Change the Screen Orientation
Posted 01 February 2011 - 10:23 AM (#2)
If you are sure orientation is not locked......your Tab could be faulty and require return.
Before you do that try a re-boot to see if that will clear it.
To re-boot hold power button down for longer than 10 seconds when switched on, and you Tab will automatically re-boot.
By the way.......Welcome to the forum

Hi,
Many thanks for the reply. Actually, the problem was not there since beginning. I purchased it before two weeks. It worked perfectly fine for around 10 days. Now it is not working. However, whenever I am doing a video call and rotating the phone to landscape, it is working in that way. But, after switching it on, whenever i am tilting it, it is not changing the orientation. Is there any other setup which I have to change. I have also downloaded many utilities from internet. Could those be a cause of concern? Please guide me. Your help is much appreciated.
Regards,
Indiana

The Utilities you have downloaded may have locked the orientation. You need to look at the "Settings" in these utilities to see if one of them includes a screen lock option.
OR
You could do a full reset...but this would return your Tab to it's original configuration and you would loose all the Apps you had downloaded.

A hard reset will reset the Samsung Galaxy Tab back to factory default settings. You would perform these steps if you want the device prepared to sell or return to the store, but you may also want to perform a hard reset if there are problems with the device that you can’t seem to solve using any other method.
1. With the device off, press and hold Volume Up and Power.
2. Release the Power button when you see the Samsung logo, but continue to hold Volume Up until the recovery screen appears.
3. Use the Volume buttons to navigate the menu and select wipe data / factory reset. Press Home to choose the selection.
4. Press Volume Up continue.
The Galaxy Tab should then go through the hard reset process.

Dear Sir,
Thanks a lot for your guidance. I just want to reboot the tab in safemode once and would like to see whether the orientation is working or not. I found that while switching on the tab, if i hold the menu button (touch at the bottom of the tab), then it would start in safemode. I did that. But, its not opening in safemode. Could you guide please?

Indiana

I am much grateful to you Sir. You have saved me from an imminent 'Full reset'. I followed your advice and found the orientation to be locked in one of the downloaded apps (i.e., Android Assistant). I have corrected that. And, now the orientation is working perfectly fine. Thank you Sir.
Could you sir suggest one 'Firewall' for Galaxy Tab. I found some from the internet but all requires root access. Can I install a firewall without root access? (or) Can I block specific utilities to access the net?
In advance, many thanks.

Indiana

I'm leaving your firewall question for someone else to answer, because I don't use one and have little knowledge of using a firewall on the Tab.
However, you must remember to check the "Settings" on any new App when you download it, to make sure that the default App settings do not include options that you don't want enabled

What us your concern? I use lookout mobile security. Like wizz said when you install a app it will tell you what system resources it needs to use.

I have a similar problem. My screen is totally upside down. I called Samsung directly and after they attempted to reset it, I have to mail it in for repairs.

that sounds more like a sensor malfunction than a software issue, so they are probably right to ask you to send it in..
just be prepared to either get a new one back, or your one wiped clean.. so remove your SD and backup any irreplaceable data..

Seek, and you shall find..
Use the SEARCH, and I'll be kind..
