Hi, just purchased my new Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 and not sure how long I should be charging for initially. It doesn't say in the manual and also can I use it while its charging for the first time?

Most tabs off the shelf seem to have quite a bit of residual charge but it's always best to fully charge before first use. The tab will beep at you when it is charged and I expect it will take no more than 4 hours. Avoid using it while on charge as that will add additional warmth to the battery.
Try this the first time....

hey.. when my gtab 2 off, take a long time to charge the battery. Within 5 hours only 40% filled. But when my gtab 2 on, within 5 hours fully charged. Is this the same as yours?

It should be the other way round.... Your Tab should charge quicker when shutdown, than when it's on.....
For fastest charge kill all running programs, apply the mains charge, and then shut down...

The Tab2 takes 3.5 hours to recharge. That is with ALL conditions present: Screen off, little to no Wi-Fi/3G activity, all programs killed, and not touched during recharge.
That's the unfortunate downside to these tabs. They last long under use, but take forEVER to recharge.

For me it takes 3.5 hours to charge. 9 hours of hard use before i have to charge it again. Thanks Blast for the additional info on the testing.

My Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is a refurb. It works great, but something is wacky with the battery stats. I first noticed that it would tell me I had a low battery and needed to connect a charger so I did, but the charging time was far less than the 4-5 hours one might expect to fully charge battery (as I've seen noted online.) So I;ve been playing around with it to try and figure out what is wrong. My unit is NOT rooted so I can't use an app that discharges and deletes the stats file. However, I am currently using a battery-draining app. I left my unit running all night, with auto-screen brightness turned off, wifif, GPS and Bluetooth on. I am currently running the battery drainer, plus Pandora with volume at 100%. I have now three times received a battery- low plug in your charger message. Each time I ignored it. Each time, the battery seemed to recover. Here's a screen shot. Each time I get the battery low message, after a while the batter level indicator actually starts going back up! I've attached a screenshot to show the battery stats.
I am going to run the unit unil it stops, dead. Then recharge, and see what happens. Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Could this be a hardware issue requiring service or replacement?
Thanks for the help.

This is interesting. Go to this link: http://www.thegalaxy...7477#entry27477 (Thanks to Moderator Blast for this one) and see if this might help.
Rooting it will help as well as you can wipe the battery stats with a recovery program (depending on the rom you choose).

Number of downloads: 7OK. None of these things have solved my problem. I'm attaching a screenshot. Does this make ANY SENSE at all? Look at how it goes up and down! It has been running on battery the whole time, and generated warnings several times then recovered on its own. I have performed several full drains and recharge cycles, plus the suggestions from the link given here, all to no avail. Any other thoughts or suggestions?
