Hello,

Does anyone know of an app or a means by which a tablet can display photos held on a nearby laptop?

There's loads of ways but I think you need to expand your question a bit more for me to understand exactly what you want to do and give you a clear answer, otherwise I could be typing all the options out all night.

That I can do (was afraid of boring everyone to death)!

I'm a photographer and want to use a series of tablets as viewing stations at events. At the moment I have one tablet wired to a laptop and I copy the files across to it. Big files, they take a while to transfer and I can very quickly fill the 32gb capacity of my tablet. I want more stations, perhaps another three or four so several people can view at once but would rather be able to point each tablet to a directory on the laptop than have to copy to each one individually. I don't mind them being tethered to the USB port - helps with security as much as anything. Does that help?

That question is beyond my blonde brain  but I know a man who can help- Moderator Finkswitch.
He's not here all the time but I will PM him and I'm sure you will here from him in 24 hours.
He has a 10.1 and has linked several together for presentations, so I think he will know what to do.

Alright, just want to be clear. You want to store all the photos in a single location, and have them accessible on several separate tablets? You could setup a share on your laptop with all the photos and use something like ES File Explorer to view them over the local network. That's probably the best way to do it, but of course, that doesn't work if you just want to use the tablets to show just the pictures (like a digital photo frame). Let me know if that works for you.

Yes, kind of. When I connect the tablet to my laptop I can view and access the directories on the former - I'd like to be able to do it in reverse, effectively having the laptop as a kind of server with the tablets acting as work stations, used by customers to access and view photos held on the laptop. Problem I have is often I'm in a field or arena with no wifi or LAN available which is why I was wondering if there was a wired / usb solution?

You could get a wireless router and just bring that along with you (assuming you have power wherever you are). There are also battery solutions you could use to power the wireless router. The Tab doesn't work well/at all in Ad-Hoc mode, though you might be able to do it via Bluetooth, but that has a very limited range.
