Whatspp on Galaxy Tab 7 plus? How to bypass it to make it think its not a tablet

Whatsapp is not working because currently they do not support tablet.
I used Allwinner Mod app to set it to "phone mode" and it still doesn't work.
I heard that you can bring out Gingerbread from ICS to trick whatsapp into thinking its running on a phone? How do you do that?
