I had something similar. About 2 days after I bought the Galaxy Tab 10.1 it seemed it wouldn't turn on. I managed to turn it on by keeping the power button pressed for a long time.

Since then I learned...

1) when turning off the Galaxy with a quick press of the power button, the tab goes into a standby mode. To turn it on you only need to press the power button for a very short time.

2) If you turn off the device by pressing the power button for about 3 seconds you will get a message asking if you want to turn off the Galaxy tab and confirm with OK. Now, if you want to turn it on you must hold the power button for about 2 - 3 seconds. Approximately 1-2 seconds after you release the power button the Galaxy tab will switch on.

Again, if it doesn't press the power button for 10+ seconds (as others have said).

HTH.

THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IN THE THREE MONTHS SINCE I HAD MY TABLET THAT IT DOESN'T TURN ON. I HAVE TRIED TO PUSH THE ON/OFF BUTTON FOR AS LONG AS 1 MIN AND A HALF (WHILE i AM CHANTING "PLEASE TURN ON, PLEASE TURN ON". I HAVE HELD THE VOLUME AND ON/OFF BUTTON FOR AT LEAST A MINUTE. I HAVE PLUG IT IN DIFFERENT OUTLETS IN THE HOUSE. NOTHING SEEMS TO WORK.
QUESTION: 1) DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY OTHER IDEA?

2) HAS SAMSUNG ISSUED ANY DIRECTIVES ON HOW TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE?. THIS SEEM TO BE PRETTY COMMON ON THIS FORUM.

3) IS IT TIME TO RETURN THE 10.1 AND BUY AN I-PAD2?

This is not a battery problem. It appears to be a moterboard problem. I am still waiting for my exchange and I am getting fed up. See my post for what I say this

Over a month later and I am still wating for my exchange. These units are defective. Why arent people talking more about this? There is no way that this many people should be having the same problem. Samsung's poor attempts to address this issue does not help either. I smell a class action coming here. Why wont Samsung wake up and do the right thing....

Please help me... I have bought a brand new Galaxy tab 10.1 which arrived today - I have had it plugged in charging for about 3 hours now but am seeing no signs of life.
I have tried turning on to see if I get a battery signal etc but nothing is happening.
I don't know if I am doing something wrong or if the unit is faulty - I can see other posts where users have not been able to turn their device on but this is after it was initially working.
I really hope you can help

A few things to try:

- Hold down the power button for approx ten seconds to give a soft reset.
- Hold down the power button and the volume down button to see if it will enter download mode and then do a soft reset.
- Can you see the battery charging symbol come up on the screen when plugged in to the mains? If not unplug from the mains and plug into a usb slot on a computer. If the battery charging icon comes up it indicates a problem with your power adapter.

Hope this helps.

Hi. You have to hold the power button down for like 15 seconds or so to turn it on. Can't just give it a quick press. If that's no help I'm sure someone else will have some ideas.

Thanks for your quick replies but unfortunately there is still no signs of life - I'm desperate to see it!
I now have plugged in to this computer in my usb slot - I have tried holding on button for over 15 seconds and nothing and holding both on and down volume key together - again with no success.
I don't have anything on the screen at all...

Im not sure what else to suggest. If the unit is powered down and you plug it into a charging device the battery indicator should come up on the screen. If this isnt the case then i would suggest there maybe a problem with the usb cable or the GT itself. I would return it and request a new one.

I'm going to assume you're already made sure the battery is fully charged, and you're holding down the power until the logo comes up, so I'd contact either Samsung or your Retailer. (depending on how long ago the purchase was) It sounds like the device might be defective. If you can get it to start up, you could check for software updates through Kies on your PC or over the air through the Tab menu.

Leave it on Mains charging for 4 - 5 Hours, and then hold down the power button until the boot sequence starts.....

What did Samsung tell you? It should be covered under a warranty from Samsung, shouldn't it? Mine is WiFi only but has a one-year warranty.

My dealings with Samsung so far have been BAD....as far as I can see they are a TOTAL sham! If I don't get any joy from them I will be brining this to the small claims court!
